For me it's 97 easily

I like it as much as 92 with both Rumbles having a crazy ending

I won a RR pool in '97, so it has a special place in my heart. Not only because I was the only kid in the pool who picked Austin, but because the kid who ran it and was hosting the PPV, threw a fit over it because Austin cheated, and his Mom had to be called in to judge and she ruled in my favor, and made her own kid cry in front of everyone. Mmmm, that was a tasty $20, LOL.

I loved 97 aswell but are we talking the overall show or just the royal rumble match? Might have different answers

I actually love the 96 Rumble match
-Jake return
-Vader PPV debut
-the King hiding under the ring
-Vader and Yoko going toe to toe
-Owen Hart gives shawn inziguri after the concussion angle
-Diesel turning into a bad ass heel

92 was fucking sweet, 97 started off kinda rough with no countdown clock. Lots of hoss action though. The first few guys were Crush, Ahmed Johnson, fake Razor, Phineas Godwin, Steve Austin, Bart Gunn, Jake Roberts. Austin was the little guy out there until the Bulldog came out. I didn’t like the Lucha guys being in there, they didn’t give them room for fun lucha shit and they obviously weren’t winning. At one point it was Austin, Rock, Mankind, Fake Taker all in there at once, which was a cool moment. Good finish, the Austin through line for the match made it really easy to follow as well.

01 was a well done match, but had its share of flaws. The Hardy boys segment to start was a missed opportunity, they should have just kept Jeff in for a long run to establish him, instead they did the partner versus partner thing and it was forgotten by mid match. The Drew Carey thing wasn’t great either. Kane carried the match and did great, solid finish, needed a different winner.

04 started out strong, Benoit to carry the match, but great showcase for Orton. Everybody I knew had the same haircut as orton in 04. Good mark Henry, probably the last big appearance of pre-JBL Bradshaw, who had already started developing the look. I think Rhyno has both dwarfism and gigantism going on and that’s where it ended up. I forgot how rough Scott Steiner was by then, not a very mobile guy looked undersized, compared with Booker T out there it’s pretty obvious why one guy succeeded more than the other from that point forward. Good finish, when they got it down to the final 6 it seemed like anybody besides big show could win. At the final two the outcome was obvious, should have had big show go out on a double elimination to keep the sense of uncertainty. Maybe the best overall match of the bunch, despite the multiple substitute entries

05 was good if only because you had two guys who were clearly getting the big push, unlike in 96 or 98 where one guy’s push was The main story, both Cena and Batista were clearly going to be the main guy one show. The beginning was a great comedy segment too, having all the vets kick the crap out of the rookie. There are a lot guys in that 04/05 range that I didn’t remember, Kenzo Suzuki, Luther Reigns, Orlando Jordan, Charlie Haas, Renee Dupree, Mark Jidrak, none of them made any impression on me during their runs. I vaguely remember Simon Dean and The Hurricane, but I think they had other characters in WCW/ECW that were getting tv time during the peak years a little earlier.

I picked 05 from memory but would probably go 04 or 97 after watching all of them again.

I have a soft spot for 1997 with Chainsaw Charlie and the like.

I have a soft spot for 95 because that was the first one I "watched" live as a kid. Had a 13" TV in my room that didn't even have a composite connection but audio on the PPV channels came through 100% (obviously the visuals were scrambled). HBK was still a perfect little shit heel before they stupidly made him a squeaky clean face later that year. And Baywatch was a global pop cultural thing at the time so Pam being there to congratulate the winner made it seem like a really big deal.
Also 2000 because even my mom was into rasslin at the time and with it being in MSG. Even if it was obvious that Rock was gonna win since Foley/HHH were in the title match and Austin was out.

I love both but 2001 was more memorable for me, both were excellent though. I also loved Royal Rumble 1991.. that was another excellent Rumble.

My top 3 favorites Rumbles are

1. Royal Rumble 1992
2. Royal Rumble 1991
3. Royal Rumble 2001

Another thing I want to add, have any of you got the Tagged Classics versions of these DVD's ?? I believe they were only sold in UK and some European countries.. none here in US... but one of my work friends brought some back when he was staying in UK for 10 months.. and one of the tagged classics DVD's he gave me was Royal Rumble 1991 & 1992 Double DVD. It was fantastic and much better than what we have in the states, WWE Network cuts a lot out and so does our VHS tapes and Anthology boxsets of those events sadly. I was watching Rumble 91 and I noticed it was longer.. for example on WWE network its 3 hours and 7 minutes, but on the tagged classics its 3 hours and 42 minutes. The VHS tape is only 3 hours exactly.

Apparently these tagged classic DVD's are very expensive and highly sought after and go for huge amounts of money. I can see why because watching the events on there they are really the most un-cut there is. Its unfair that in US we get stuff cut out.

Look on XWT and XWT Classics, they should have torrents of the Tagged Classics since they're based in the UK.
