What's up with Rory and the Imanari roll that he has used against Mousasi and Wonderboy. Both fights it worked out badly for him. It reminds me of Weidman vs Rockhold, where Weidman was losing but was still in the fight, until he went for that spinning kick and then got murdered on the ground. Rory was losing but did land some shots and wasn't busted up badly, until he purposefully put himself on the bottom using that roll, then Mousasi killed him.

Well sometimes it works...

or not

He thinks he's some sort of ninja.

Honestly, I think he felt that jab a lot more then you know. He had no answer for it. So he took a chance at a sub. If he somehow had caught Gegard then he would be MW champ. It was a gamble that he paid for big time. I don't know if he underestimated Gegard's grappling and gnp or what but being on the bottom against a larger opponent is the worst place you can be and Gegard is one of the most skilled guys his size.

He obviously envisioned pulling a sub like GSP Bisping, but Mousasi is a tier above Bisping.

I don't think you'll see him going for that in a fight again anytime soon, but what do I know, against a guy his size or smaller in WW there isn't as much risk involved.

Only Ferg is efficient with it. Superhuman-like

Tony's reads in fight are some of the best in the UFC, no joking.

Idiot announcers think Fergy got dropped by Lee's lead hook. He actually read a perfectly-timed head-kick by Lee and ducked out of the way in record time.

the only reason i can think of why he does that is he hits it in training a lot and catches decent fighters. the thing is if they arent at equal level or above him i dont see how that translates to this level of fighting. if hes catching gsp with that shit and other tri start top talent then okay maybe he could actually pull it off and if hes loosing standing its worth the risk but i doubt that. its very low percentage against a sweaty opponent who can just not engage into it. tri star fighters usually dont put them selves in bad positions and have solid game plans too so it is really weird he goes for that. would be interesting to hear his reasoning. similar to leg locks unless its a sure thing and you are master at what you are doing you are taking a massive risk in mma going for it especially against bigger stronger opponents.
i said before this fight it was a bad match up for rory based on his past proformances against fighters who had a slight edge standing. plus gegard is larger. i expected a much more patient rory who would use his speed to his advantage and have a higher work output due to being smaller what we saw was rory he beat to the jab on most exchanges and then he went for his flipping spin ninja shit. all around it was bad.

He really needs to stop that shit. Why would you go for that against Mousasi of all people lol. I'm sure he hits in training sometimes and feels like a god but it's just not a good idea against elite guys.

That's so nice to watch. Is Tony the best 'funk' fighter in MMA?

Never noticed that good stuff dude.

Rory strongly identifies with being a martial artist rather than an athlete or a fighter. It's not an unreasonable move against someone who does not even know what 50/50 guard is.

Third time was not a charm. He thought otherwise. Rory obviously has/had faith in his ground game and wanted to take the fight there that last jab messed up his nose.

Its easy to say it after the fact if it worked we wouldnt be having this convo we would be calling it a great move if it had worked and he got the win by sub. We would be then praising Rory for it.
