Other cool notes

Ronnie entered Mr. Olympia because a friend gave him a free gym membership as long as he did and trained for it. Ronnie always liked working out but his real dream was to be a pro Football player, he went undrafted, got a degree in accounting and was never able to get an accounting job due to lack of connections and experience. So he joined the police department and fell in love with policing. Ronnie worked out at the police gym and then at the place his friend who ran a gym gave him a free membership. Ronnie continued to work for the Dallas police while he was competing for most of his 8 Mr. Olympias.

In addition, Ronnie celebrated ever victory by pigging out on Pizza hut at his hotel room right after, then mcdonalds, and then going to the strip club.

Like or dislike extreme bodybuilding and the physiques how big he got was impressive. Absolutely huge

He also used to be a police officer while he would compete

I don't usually watch a whole episode, but this one was great. Ronnie seems like a good dude. Sucks he's in that much pain.

Edit: re steroids - They do talk about steroids. Ronnie mentions steroids never made him lift more weight, only made him look better. And he was taking basic stuff, no different than baseball players were taking. He said he would never have won Mr Olympia without steroids, but only a few can win it because they are gifted genetically.

also uncrowned champ Levrone was robbed of atleast two mr Os whilst Ronnie was king.

Listened at work today.

He didn’t say “Yeah Buddy!” once, was disappointed on some level.

Seems like a good dude, sad to see he can’t let go of lifting even after all his surgery’s. On some sick level I get it.

Met him here in Shanghai around 2011.

The man is short, maybe 5’9

he wore a long t-shirt and came to judge a show and sign autographs.

His forearms were fucking massive.

He was jovial and so polite.

I have a t-shirt signed by him and we spoke for a while, he’s quite religious and I wished him a safe flight back, he called me brother and we embraced.

No bullshit, no attitude and zero ego.

I honestly could give less fucks about bb but he was a king of his realm, would loved to have spent more time with him.

No interested in bodybuilding, but I like this guy. He has that upbeat, don't complain - make the best of it attitude that I always thought was the best part of American culture. Sad to hear about all that pain he is in. Guess it's the prize you pay.

so much strength in those glutes...so much strength...my gawd the asthetics.

Always wondered what would have happened if he stayed fit and kept competing.
His body was pretty beat up... after years at world level and his specific training style (little time off).

Torn both biceps & triceps, & that’s just surface.
Plus years of both ped use and amounts and some of his training strategies also prolly cost a lot long term endocrine system too? dunno.

He never took time off. After major contests/shows, (Olympia) when most would take time off, he’d use that state when body is beat all to hell to train even more. Theory is that this state is when receptors and tissue is most receptive to shock.

That said, I’m pretty sure he could’ve taken better care of himself in last 15 to 20 years and recuperated better (if he wanted) prolly just not driven all that much either.
Honestly, I’m not real familiar with DY that much.

Ronnie took time off a lot and still got injuries.

In the interview he says after he won each Mr. OLYMPIA he would take 3 months off and not workout. And would eat more or less what he wanted. And right after winning he would have Pizza Hut delieved to his hotel room and would pig out on Pizza hut and then go drive to Mcdonalds right after and buy and eat a bunch of mcdonalds. Only said he pigged out truly for 1 day. And would cut the steroids cold turkey right after the competition was done.
How long before joe drops the "you werr on all the steroids" bombshell

1 hour and 12 minutes in.

Ronnie says he took various Testosterone stuff and Dbol and growth hormone. And others but doesnt elaborate on the other stuff. Said he could not win Mr. OLYMPIA without steroids or been that huge but that steroids didnt make him lift more, that he is blessed genetically and that steroids mostly helped with the way he looked, his muscle tightness, hardness, skin, etc. Also he says he took no more than what pro MLB players take and that less is more approach with steroids. In addition to proper eating.
Mr. Olympia is always in September so he would take off till January 1st then start training again.

He also says steroids are largely legal now. From what he said it seems he mostly took HGH, Test, and Dbol only. And that he got his stuff from doctors. That most guys he knew had prescriptions

I couldn't imagine meeting Coleman. I once ran into Sean Ray and was flabbergasted at the size of him. He was relatively tiny compared to his peers, let alone Coleman. I got the same inkling with Frank Mir. Athletes are just a difference species. The camera really does no favors.

If Kevin wanted the crown he should have been born with calves.

He's from my area. Everyone who has meet him has said he's hilarious. I love the documentaries he did, it would basically be him drenching every meal with bbq sauce while saying "masterpeice, best sauce they make"

Loved how he wasn't only obsessed with image but geniuely liked lifting heavy weights and putting in work. His famous quote was "everybody wants to be a bodybuilder but nobody wants to lift no heavy-ass weights"
