I'm aware that there's quite a few online instructionals around now and I'm interested in trying one out for a month and seeing what I think. I have looked over a few sites and ATM I'm leaning towards Roger Gracie tv. Anyone with experience? Pros, cons etc. The reason I am leaning towards Roger Gracie TV is because right now I'm very interested in his incredible fundamental game.

I learned a few good moves from there and watching Roger roll has made me think a lot

Pros: Some videos contain super good details on moves or some new very useful moves (some are simple solutions to stuff but there are few with a clever control), sparring footage is interesting as Rogers approach is fairly unique, seeing how good he is at sealing the deal, advancing and finishing people once he gets a good position (like being in a good position in half or having even a start of a back attack), or how he pressures folks trying to get into a good spot, good if you want to improve you side control attacks (there is lot good stuff on that)
Cons: Less videos then on other sites, a lot of the guest instructors aren't that great, in some of the videos Roger shows common techniques without extra improvements (often for stuff he doesn't much himself)

Subscribed to this a couple months ago to learn Roger's "signature sweep" (the one where opponent combat bases to deny your closed guard). The great thing about Roger is that ALL of his techniques work REALLY WELL. I don't know why that surprised me considering the source, but it was a fun revelation while going through his site and trying out moves in sparring. Roger is remarkably calm, so his videos are kind-of hypnotic in a Mr. Rogers sense. His dad, Maurcio Gomes, shows several moves and he's enjoyably insane.

Yeah, you get the feeling that Roger only knows like 10 moves, and the rest is just stuff he considers academic curiosity ("well I've never had to escape a heel hook, but if I did I would consider this..."). Unlike people like Marcelo Garcia, who have a strong A, B, C option for every move, Roger usually has one option and doesn't waver from it.

Watching his rolls I feel he has a ton of say side control options. Some of the generic moves like the ankle lock I don't think he uses that much. It's doable but it's the regular version not a super effective vversion. For his overunder pass he shows a killer detail and even Bernardo Faris would benefit from that

sadly he doesnt update it n not many no gi techs only site that has a bunch of vids and updates regularly are marcelos and mendes

seems like his offense is a little more diversified than his defense, but either way there's FAR less "if he does A then I do B..." than with other instructors. most of the killer details, as you say, are built into the primary move rather than expecting to counter with them. i was really floored by how effective his RLDR pass is, for example

Something about the way Roger teaches instills a deeper level of cofidence for me too, it's like he has no doubt in his technique. He might as well be saying "go ahead and etch that in stone" but it doesn't sound cocky, it's weird

I start to think of where he got that from and I remember his bjj carreer.

Atos online updates theirs very often. I think they're best "new school", Roger's is best for fundamentals.

Honestly Roger's stuff really doesn't need to be updated too often, it really is timeless. He tapped Buchecha with this stuff, nothing flashy. He does a breakdown of their match on the site.

Thanks for getting back to me.
It's definitely a toss up between Roger Gracie TV or Marcelo garcia's in action.
I can only afford one so which would be better for me?

GOAT for sure; that's probably the number one thing i've taken away from his website and reviewing old matches

So if you were me would you be going for Roger Gracie's or Marcelo Garcia's?

The big question is if you like Marcelos style?
I seems super good if you like it and get it

If you find a referral code (I ones you one) you can get a free trial week at Marcelo. I don't like his style so I'm not subscribed there but if you like him you can watch him do his stuff in rolling (Marcelo has.a super narrow game and is always doing the same stuff)

Truth be told I actually really like both guys style's.
I was wondering why they sjsndi have any trials, surely it would make sense to offer one to people so they can see what they'd be getting.

Marcelo has a trial, you just need a code from someone. Roger's I don't think so. You can browse what videos there are but you can't watch them.

I think not playing action and reactions games that much is a big part of his strategy.
Getting rid of obstacles and reducing the amount of opponents choices the opponents have.

I dunno I think if you play his game there's still a lot of action reaction going on.

I actually prefer Braulio site. The techniques are almost the same. The explanations are just as good IMO, plus Braulio gives action reaction stuff like you see at other sites. Plus, it's built like mginaction, so it's very easy to see the moves being done live in sparring
