So I've had this lovely crack in the callus of my left foot for quite some time now. It's in the callus on the ball of the foot--I assume I got this from pivoting for right kicks. Today at my job I ended up ripping the thing open. Previously it was just a deep crack in the skin that didn't bother me much. But now it's actually an open wound, which means I'll definitely have to tape it and such for Muay Thai.

I'm going to make an appointment for the podiatrist tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and what you did to treat it at home. What's the best way to tape up a foot to keep from aggravating the wound? I had actually super glued it shut earlier this week, but now that it's bleeding, I'm not about to try that again.

Any advice?

no idea but I was about to buy a foot basin today to start soaking my feet. read somewhere that callouses are easier to tear when they are all built up like that. sounds like the opposite of common sense but I'm willing to give it a shot.

the worst is when you have a tear in the crack of your pinky toe.

Put the lotion on the skin or get the hose again. Getting too dry makes it crack easier so soak in and put lotion often and just wait. Also, maybe take a week or two off so it can mend without being reopened every practice.

I put that new skin liquid bandage on it then tape over that. Good as new

Thing is, I don't have dry feet. It wasn't a crack per se--not like you get in chapped skin. It was literally a deep split in the callus.

Super glue was my thought.

Maybe one of those neoprene foot and ankle sleeves? Kinda like a booty with the toes cut off. At least til it heals

im a wrestler, so like all wrestlers i developed huge calluses on the medial side of my feet, above the ball, next to my big toes. they ripped off so bad from kicking during my first ever week of muay thai. sometimes they grow from wrestling and then get ripped off when i kick

huge open wounds. shit sucks. just have to tape it up

Looks like that'll be the key. We'll see what the podiatrist says. I'm not looking to get a foot infection of some kind.

One of my ex-girlfriends was really into ballet and had all sorts of foot problems from point. For calluses she told me to, 1) soak in warm water w/Epson salt, 2) use a pumice stone, 3) copious amounts of lotion.

on a side note, ballet dancers have great advice on keeping your feet healthy if you ever have a chance to talk to one.

Yeah, when this heals I guess I'll have to take better care of my calluses. I always assumed the more callus the better, but I guess you've got to keep your feet soft and your calluses thin to prevent them from tearing or splitting.

Go to a Dermatologist or Orthopedic foot specialists for issues of the foot.

In my experiences Podiatrists (in the US) are second rate, due to a lack of a strong residency program.
