He’s native Morgan Freeman. Damn he was a great actor. Could walk the line from serious and funny so well. RIP

Two greats:

Great comparison with Morgan Freeman.

Damn that sucks. He elevated everything he was in. His role in Maverick was great. "We go get dressed up in war paint and go whooping around like idiots".

Thunderheart was one of those movies i never gave a chance until it came on HBO. He was terrific in it.

aww man, one of the best Native actors ever. No one got the native humor to the big screen better.

Haven’t seen it.
Thunderheart would be more along the lines of how the Indians I knew really were. Greene was a real actor in a business where there are so few Indians that hollywood usually just picks anyone they can meaning they couldn't really act at all. That's changing today because the young natives are so colonized by this point that they can imitate what they've seen all their lives easily. Wasn't like that 30+ years ago. Chief Dan George was a terrific presence in a film but he and Will Sampson never struck me as being real actors. A huge part of that in many cases is just the withdrawn/stoic nature of being Indian.

R.I.P., great in everything he did, especially loved him in Maverick and Clear Cut.

That's odd, I was just randomly thinking about him earlier today.

Specifically his scene in THE GREEN MILE, he crushed his small part in that.

In a movie absolutely filled with moving moments, his understated performance often comes to me.

Crazy body of work, what a career.

RIP

Man that sucks.
I liked the guy.
