The term "legend" gets thrown around way too often in pro wrestling, but there may not be a more deserving name for that title than Inoki. He was like a combination of Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan & Arnold Schwarzenegger. The guy freed prisoners in Iraq & eased tension with North Korea through the power of pro wrestling. The guy both built & destroyed the second most financially successful wrestling promotion in the world & people were still voluntarily lining up just to be slapped by him.
I'm not even really a fan of the guy, he had probably the most historically unchecked and out of control ego in pro wrestling history, which really fucking says something. I think I understand now what old British people felt when the Queen died, it should be expected and I didn't like the guy but it feels like a world turning moment.
