RIP ANTONIO INOKI

The term "legend" gets thrown around way too often in pro wrestling, but there may not be a more deserving name for that title than Inoki. He was like a combination of Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan & Arnold Schwarzenegger. The guy freed prisoners in Iraq & eased tension with North Korea through the power of pro wrestling. The guy both built & destroyed the second most financially successful wrestling promotion in the world & people were still voluntarily lining up just to be slapped by him.

I'm not even really a fan of the guy, he had probably the most historically unchecked and out of control ego in pro wrestling history, which really fucking says something. I think I understand now what old British people felt when the Queen died, it should be expected and I didn't like the guy but it feels like a world turning moment.

I passed him once while he was sitting at a dentist office waiting room. I was on the outside, he was inside. I did one of those walk past the door, walk backwards, and look again to make sure it was him.

He realized this and seemed amused. Good times.

I knew little about him outside of the Ali fight.

This hits me hard. He was the best of all time.

Rest in Peace! 1.2.3.DA!

Masa Saito once said that if Inoki started wrestling as a kid, Inoki would have been at the olympics instead of him.

Ali called him Pelican Jaw.
When Inoki was young, he was very embarrassed about his jaw, so he actually went to a plastic surgeon to get it changed. The surgeon told him not to do it, because the jaw will make him more memorable and recognizable. Inoki listened.

If you werent a pro wrestling fan,and you see Inoki walk by,you think "THAT HAS TO BE somebody!"

I feel like Onita and Takada and all them dudes all want to be like him.

He was one of those guys that thought nothing is impossible. Dude made every single day suck his dick. RIP

With Baba dead, Gotch dead, Inoki dead, Dynamite Kid dead and Tiger Mask in terrible health, it's shocking Yoshiaki Fujiwara is still wrestling.

I saw him in a train station when I was a teenager. He dressed very unassuming in a dress shirt and pants but he is very particular with the way he sat and carried himself. I was staring for a little bit but I didn't have the balls to approach him. I was pretty much watching him watch other people. Nobody sat on the bench next to him.
