I've already done some research on ring worm because I got it and was out for 2 weeks. I was using the anti-fungal cream and tea tree oil, plus I was wrapping it up everyday (I work construction so it's rough to keep it dry, when it's hot outside and I'm sweating like a pig, cleaning dry wall tools in buckets of water). I think that might have been why it took so long to even start fading. I told my instructor, and I wanted to be as safe as possible so I didn't even set foot in the school. They told me to use bleach and anti-fungal and it would clear up in a couple of days. I didn't use the bleach because my brother got staph one time, doing that to an infection. If it really is the end all, be all, I guess I'll try it though. I've heard good things about the tea tree oil/Lamisil though. I've read the threads here and did the research on WebMD/Google. Now I realize I made a mistake and I hope I didn't infect anyone because I guess 14 days isn't enough. I showed up for class and my instructor looked at it and said it was ok, it was all sunken in and pale. I did like one class and it popped up again.

Anyway, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to write a novel. My question is, If you basically have to shower before class, is there anything you can do to protect yourself? I understand that you're really not meant to shower before class but I'm usually all covered in drywall mud/dust, all sweaty from work and it's usually in my eyes, all over my face so I can't really just wash my hands. I'm assuming that other people have this problem, as there have to be at least a few other sucky carpenters that get the shit all over them and the dust is kind of unavoidable. I'm pretty sure I may have gotten it because of the showering. I always dry off real well, make sure I'm really dry before I leave the house, but I just wandered if anyone else had any tips about this. Also, anything for working in a hot, humid, wet environment and keeping the ring worm at bay would be helpful as well. I was thinking about wrapping it in saran wrap and then electrical taping around that but I thought maybe they made a sleeve or something, I Googled but I couldn't find anything promising. Sorry, in advance for rambling and wasting bandwidth.

Definately shower before and after. stay off the mats until it's completely cleared up. If the cream is taking too long, see your doctor you can get a oral medication that is very powerful, they don't like to prescribe it too much though cos it is pretty heavy on the liver. IIRC

If in a location that can taped and covered and the tape will stay (appendage, et. cetera) then tape the shit and get back to training. - E

Please don't do this.

Oh, I would never do that. I'm honestly more of a hobbyist and I would feel two feet tall if I gave someone who competes a lot or is really great the plague.

I also wanted to point out, I didn't make it evident but I do shower after class as well, every time, wash gi, assorted jj stuff after every class, etc. All in all, I think I'm pretty careful, which is one of the reasons it sucks that I got it. I do tend to drive home for the shower, but it's only like a ten minute drive. I'm just not a big fan of public shower areas.

Stop covering it. Let it breathe. If it isn't clearing up in a week go to your MD.

Never put bleach on your skin.

Don't cover ringworm. Fungus likes damp dark places. Covering it because you are going to be sweating gurantees a damp dark place with no air.

Don't cover it at work, don't cover it in the gym, don't get on the mat if there is anything worth covering.

Do not use antibacterial soap. Use an antifungal soap like Defense after work and after training.

Ring worm is slow to metabolize. It grows slowly and unfortunately it also dies slowly. OTC products do work but if possible get a topical cream from your doctor. I'm finishing up a round of the Intraconazole right now but I had that shit deep in my hair follicles and the creams couldn't get deep enough

When I was spending some time in the desert I got ring worm so I understand the constant wetness aspect.

What I did that really worked well for me was I took a piece of plastic (square cut out of a ziploc bag), I squirted a bunch of anti-fungal cream on it and then I taped it down to the ringworm with duct tape. It stayed on through the sweat and all of the anti-fungal cream was forced to soak into the skin and stay in contact with the ringworm for hours.

The only negative aspect of this is that duct tape is not meant for skin, so if you tape in the exact same way your skin turns raw after a few days. I would rotate it 45 degrees or so every day. Of course some parts always had tape on it but the raw skin was a small price to pay to get rid of ring worm.

Yeah if you have to cover it, dress it like a wound with your antiungal (rx or otc).

Acidophilus supplements help a lot too. I take some every day and have avoided ringworm for the last year.

How the fuck can you guys train BJJ, work jobs but wont go to a GD doctor? You have medical insurance. Go see a GD DOCTOR!!!! Its a $20-$30 copay. Youre gonna bitch about the high cost of lessons but wont shell out what it cost to fill up a compact car to make sure you, your family, and training partners are safe.

If you have to shower before you train shower immediately upon getting home trying to give yourself as much time before you train as possible. The flora on your skin doubles every 27 minutes. Try to give yourself as big a window as you can.

And no worries about infecting other people. Your ringworm is not contagious when it is flat and pale. Ringworm is contagious when it is raised.

My copay is pretty bad. I have pretty bad insurance in general and it's way more than 20-30 bucks to see a doctor. It wouldn't stop me from seeing a doctor, it's just that all of the research I did on it said that you really didn't need to go to the doctor unless it wasn't going away and it was going away, but for some reason it popped back up. Sorry I pissed you off, I just wanted some advice. I do appreciate all the other good advice. Thanks very much everyone.

Dilluted bleach works really well, lotramin ultra takes a lot longer but works well if you are scared of the bleach method.

Ive used food grade hydrogen peroxide too, burns the hell out of you but gets rid of the ring worm.

You guys are fucking crazy-bleach on your skin???!!

Use anti fungal cream- canesten or similar, christ!!!!!

Why are you so angry? Not everyone has good insurance. Maybe his co-pay isn't $20. Maybe he needs to meet a deductible to start paying $20. Maybe his co-pay is $100. What if the guy doesn't have insurance? Or what if the insurance covers the Dr visit but he has to pay out the ass for pharmacy?

Stop being an ass. Usually OTC creams and tea tree oil clears it up. He has a unique problem and was discussing solutions for his issue. Stop acting like an entitled asshole.

Sometimes after ringworm is killed, it leaves a small little faded scar. You can kind of see it but there is no ringworm at all there anymore. I wonder if TS has this. BTW, your brother didnt get staph from bleach. Thats like getting a hangover from pedialyte.
