Gane turned Ngannou into a wrestler. He's by far the best striker in the division.

Couture was much older and undersized, which makes it even more impressive imo.

Bisping didn't earn his title shot. He was supposed to be a gimme win for Anderson. You can even argue hometown judging got him the win. Anderson was winless for maybe 3-4 years leading up to that fight. Bisping only got the title shot because Weidman pulled out less than 3 weeks before his title rematch with Rockhold. Bisping got the win over Rockhold in one of the biggest upsets.

Gane hasn't fought a wrestler but that is the nature of the HW division now. Gane beat the guy who beat the wrestler. You can't fault Gane for not beating a wrestler when the wrestler can't rise up the rankings. Gane has fought other contenders for the title shot and he beat another one after losing to Francis. Gane had a very competitive fight with Francis. It isn't a fluke rise to the top. He is at least the top 3 in the division.

Randy moving up is pretty legit. He wasn't over the hill though. He got knocked out by Lidell in a LHW title fight and decided to move up for a title shot at HW. He beat Tim and Gonzaga which are good wins at the time.
