Movies Rian Johnson's KNIVES OUT (Sequel in the Works; Dragonlord's Review)

First Trailer for Rian Johnson's Star-Studded Murder Mystery KNIVES OUT

Writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi)

And it says 'Written and Directed by Rian Johnson' at the beginning of the trailer.

And it says 'Written and Directed by Rian Johnson' at the end of the trailer.

Apparently, Lionsgate really thinks his name is a HUGE selling point, and not the numerous A-List actors for the movie.

Either that, or Rian demanded his name be repeated in association to the movie, as if he's as big as James Cameron or Steven Spielberg.

I'm leaning towards the latter.

let me guess he called donald trump a criminal? Said some you dont agree with politically?

I couldn't care less about his politics.

If I only watched movies and shows with actors and directors that agreed with me politically, I could never watch anything ever again.

So, guess again.

Stopped reading at Rain Johnson

isn't this the guy who ruined star wars?

I won't count the guy out because he failed with a stupidly large, and monumental project.

This looks to be more up his ally. Nothing I'd see in the theater, but I'll keep an eye out. Looks alright.

You don't know if that was Yedlin or Johnson doing the camera work

The relationship between DP and Director is always different and changes from project to project

Actually, usually the director picks the camera angles and focal length and explains how he wants it to look and then the DP lights the scene accordingly

Yep could be that Rian had a big part in the look.

I noticed how beautiful The Last Jedi looked and took note of this guy then saw more movies from him and fallowed him on twitter and saw what he posts and talks about and how he looks at things I think he is the real deal.. imagine this guy in contrast to the guy that did Solo (forgot his name but the big hot shot from Arrival) with all his 'natural light' pissed me proper on how ugly he made Solo look.

From this teaser again I noticed some beautiful photography and I'm not someone that really notices this stuff it needs to be truly special and then I get it like say in recent times stuff that got me impressed: Winding Refn (Only God forgives, Neon Demon etc), Midsommar trailer looks special, Under The Silver Lake, latest Blade Runner, Mandy looked good too.. so yea when my goof eyes spots cinematic beauty then it must be really something special.

There is no redemption for what he did to The Last Jedi.

I don't remember Solo looking that bad but I guess it didn't have the pop of The Last Jedi or Rogue One (which is my favorite looking Star Wars movie apart from CGI Tarkin which was a horrible mistake they should have handled that different, put him in shadows or something, instead they insist on doing these insane close ups on a CGI character when the technology just clearly isnt there yet. I dont know why they did that....)

SOLO was by Ron Howard. The hot shot from ARRIVAL did the latest BLADE RUNNER.

Oh yea Solo looks really ugly, clear lack of light, messed up a lot of work from the other crew members just cause he has his gimmick and Ron Howard let that shit slide and didn't replace his behind.

You are also right with Rogue One looked really good best "lived in" modern Star Wars movies, looked so good. If you want shots like a painting then TLJ and if you want the gritty real feel then RO.

Solo ugly, TFA had it's moments.. really good ones like the snow lightsaber duel or the opening too but overall looked a tad to clean and laboratory for my taste.. really digging that Ep 9 trailer.. those sand particles and the way the camera is moving when it pans down from Rey's face to the hilt down and then from behind like an old school western and out of focused character when looking at the incoming space ship.. I'm like YES!

"When Oscar Isaac arrived in Wadi Rum for his first week of shooting, Abrams had set up a massive greenscreen in the middle of the desert. “And I was like, ‘J. J., can I ask you a question? I notice we’re shooting on greenscreen.’ And he’s like, ‘So why the hell are we in the desert?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah!’ And he said, ‘Well, because look: the way that the sand interacts with the light, and the type of shots you would set up—if you were designing the shot on a computer you would never even think to do that.’ There’s something about the way that the light and the environment and everything plays together.” It’s that something, the presence and the details and the analog imperfections of a real nondigital place, that makes Star Wars so powerful."

So yea it got me hyped and looked great and again it's a good sign when I notice this type of stuff cause I'm not really that deep with details unless they are really all up in my face. (at least from my perspective and scale on how I judge this things)

There is no way in hell that is the same dude behind that camera..

The style is the same like in Arrival problem is there it worked because of the movie and mood and what was need it but for Solo it ruined it.. I'm talking about the director of cinematography or photography how it's called.. the guy that picks the lens, the camera, that looks in it and actually films the thing, the lights etc etc.. yea depending on Director he can have more or less control but that guy has a thing for natural light and should be kept away from big tentpoles like SW movies.

I'll look it up so it's no more misunderstanding.

TLJ was the very definition of a dumpster fire, but this looks interesting. I love a good murder mystery, don't get enough of them these days.

No shit. You're talking about Bradford Young. He did do both. And he's really hot right now, hence "hot shot."

Of course 2049's Deakins would be incomparable in terms of colors and values these days.

Guess I'll take this seat here.

@A.A. Riggs okay the guy I'm talking about is Bradford Young he is the director of cinematography that did Arrival and Solo and now looks to be filming Space Jam 2 oh praise the cinema gods he didn't do Dune. I'm kinda mad about Solo and I know he got nominated for Oscars best camera (cinematography) guy for Arrival that's why I call him hot shot cause the light stuff he does is clearly a gimmick at least to me.. he should have done The Revenant his fancy ways would have fit like a glove in that production.

The guy that filmed Blade Runner 2049 is named Roger Deakins.. didn't know his name till now but looks to be really old school, old Hollywood has some good looking movies to his name.

Boring Fact: Deakins was consultant on all HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON films, which I use to calibrate my televisions. My colors are according to the eye of Deakins.

Looper was pretty decent and it doesn't look all that bad. I'll be giving it a shot.

The Revenant was Emmanuel Lubezki "Chivo" many pros consider him the best living cinematographer

Roger Deakins is one of the goats with a ton of academy award nominations to his credit, he also did Sicario for the same director

I like his work a lot better than Bradford Young's and suspect you would too

And Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou, No Country For Old Men, Assassination of Jesse James, True Grit, Skyfall

Dude's filmography is like whoa
