...tried to steal his Rolex

A retired wrestler pinned a mugger to the ground who tried to steal his Rolex in the middle of a busy West Hollywood street.

The altercation happened Wednesday at 1pm in the 900 block of North Sweetzer Avenue, just minutes from West Hollywood City Hall, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The former athlete, who opted to stay anonymous, described the incident to NBC4: 'A small black sedan pulled up, a guy jumped out with a gun, came at me and attacked me.'

But what the mugger did not know was that his attempted victim had a fighting background, which he promptly put to good use.

The man said: 'I was able to disarm and take the gun from him.

'I had him pinned down, he was trying to get up.'

The attempted robbery could have been fatal.

The retired wrestler said: 'The gun was loaded when they pulled the chamber back. One popped out of the chamber, so it was ready to go.'

His girlfriend rushed in to help after he was disarmed.

She said: 'When the gun was wrestled to the ground, I'm the one that went and grabbed it and picked it up and threw it over the apartment fence.'

The LA County Sheriff's Department office in West Hollywood told the Daily Mail that the attempted mugger was in custody.

However, the getaway driver escaped.

Patrick McCloskey was working from home when the scrap happened.

He suddenly heard screams and walked out to an 'intense' scene, without a clue of what was going on.

McCloskey told KTLA: 'The chaos was so intense, I didn't know who jumped who.

'I ran to the door to see what was happening. At that point, I hear [the girlfriend] yell, "Get the gun, get the gun!"'

Footage during the attempted robbery captured McCloskey standing outside of his house calling for help on the phone.

He was heard saying: 'Someone's got a gun, someone pulled it on someone, someone tried to tackle a nice lady. It's happening in front of my house.'

McCloskey recalled how the tables turned on the mugger.

He said: 'He didn't know that the guy was a retired wrestler, so he was able to get the gun off the guy and wrestle him down.

'He held him down and he showed no mercy. I think, at one point, the guy's arm got dislocated and they just held him down.' (The Money Quote)

The LA County Sheriff's Department office in West Hollywood told the Daily Mail that it did not know whether any charges would be filed, as the attempted robber's case was due in court Friday.

I'm assuming it was an amateur wrestler but I'd rather it was an old catch guy.

Like Regal in his soft british accent telling the reporter how he straight destroyed this guy.

Or Haku, not a catch guy, explaining why he pulled the guys eye out
Haku bless... I remember the time he beat up the entire armed forces... or maybe that was Rick Rude knocking them all out one by one. ;)

Is Sherdog gonna say the wrestler guy was stupid to wear a Rolex in West Hollywood, otherwise he wouldn't have gotten robbed?

I guess if someone was to say the mugger should have paid more attention to who he was mugging it would be blaming the victim?

Potential WWE/WCW or other retired wrestler, famous enough to not want to be identified but not famous enough to be recognized. Also can sport a Rolex too...

I want to say Nathan Jones or maybe Tyler Man but them boys are both huge dudes.

Usually people aren't described as retired wrestlers unless they were professionals. So this was either an Olympic wrestler or a WWE guy.

So let's figure it out. Who lives near Hollywood that would wear a Rolex?

Older generation wrestlers were shit with their money... So literally any of them might have bought a Rolex... Also, Rolex's used to be cheaper or at least the market itself wasn't selling them so high over sticker price

Excellent.

Also, he was described by a witness as being pretty big. So we can eliminate guys like Spike Dudley and Rey Mysterio.

He also was with his girlfriend, so we can assume he's not married. Unless he's cheating and that's the reason why he didn't want to be identified.

So we have a pretty big guy, the type to wear a Rolex, the type to risk his life defending that rolex, who lives in LA and has a girlfriend.

Another witness said he "showed no mercy" and I wonder if that's also a clue. Does that mean it's a WCW guy and the witness was making a joke?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was a black guy based on the clues I posted above.

That narrows it down quite a bit.

Now how many black retired wrestlers were successful enough to afford a Rolex?

1. Booker T (also fits the no mercy clue)
2. R Truth
3. The godfather

But all these guys are married. Help me out, bros! Name black wrestlers that are single or divorced

Ok I got Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin.

I'm going to guess it's Bobby Lashley since they mentioned that he has fighting experience and he also dislocated the guy's shoulder, which I suspect he used an MMA move.

Edit: crap I think I'm wrong. Bobby Lashley is not retired. He still wrestles for AEW

Ok my new guess is David Otunga.

He's big, not married, likely has money since he's a Harvard educated lawyer and the father of Jennifer Hudson's child, so if she's richer then she likely pays him a lot of child support.

Also, since he's a lawyer he likely recognized the advantages of remaining anonymous after this encounter.
