Hi,

I got a Everlast advanced reflex bag for Christmas from my brother and, not knowing anything about training, I wonder which kind of gloves do I use to hit it?

I'm assuming I have to go out and buy the heavy boxing gloves? Since it's a speed bag, I don't have to actually wrap my hands?

Thanks in advance.

You really don't need any gloves for that bag. Most of the time I just wrap my hands and hit it without gloves because it's not very heavy. Oh yeah and it's a piece of crap that breaks easily and isn't really good for much, but enjoy anyway!

That really isn't a useful piece of training equipment. If it was you would see it in gyms, but you don't. Everlast makes stuff like this which appeals to casual boxing and mma fans but has no real training purposes. Unless you end up hurting yourself on this bag just punch it with out gloves, have fun. Just know that having this does not make you a UFC fighter, or even any better at punching in general. If you really wanna train that is not what you need.

I've always hit that bag with my normal bag gloves (16oz) on, but mainly because I'm usually doing a routine going around the bags and just keep the same gloves on.

I suppose you could hit it without gloves though - although I don't really see a difference either way except remember that hitting stuff with 16oz gloves is like using weights, you'll be a lot faster when you switch to lighter gloves for competition

Um, no - I've seen that reflex bag in gyms. They just don't have them in old school gyms cause that's the nature of old school.

That bag is VERY good for drilling yourself to "bring your hand back quicker than you punched it out", which is a big principle in boxing. Alas, I think many people misuse the bag and think it's like some sort of double end bag where you're supposed to slip it or something

Ok, that makes sense. It can be used like that I guess. I don't think everlast made it with that in mind, though. Theres also probably 100x as many people using it as a punching bag in their garage to train UFC than there are people using it for hand speed

I used to hit that at the gym with just wraps on. But unless you are a true beginner, I really don't see much purpose with it. That bag is way too slow for you to slip it or anything. So if you are a true beginner, and learning the form of slipping and blocking, it may help a little bit.

Thank you, sirs!

I am a complete novice at boxing and I plan on using this to stay in shape and exercise when I'm not lifting weights or riding my bicycle. It would be cool if I learn the basics of boxing with it, but that's not my ultimate goal and I never plan on or pretend to be a fighter.

Thank you very much, I think I'll go for the 16oz gloves since my wrists/fingers hurt already.
