Ref in Almeida vs Potieria

That was insane.

Even Goddard in the Kayla fight I thought were too antsy about separating from the clinch.

And even Mike Beltran was pretty antsy about it.

Did someone tell the refs to "make fights exciting" or something?

Also the Salt Lake crowd was atrocious.

I bet Jon Jones is calling the UFC to try and get this guy to ref his fight against Stipe.
Yeah imagine if a guy fought like that in all his early championship fights and become the greatest UFC champ in history because of it, that would be crazy.

Another ref had some really crazy stand-ups and separations after that debacle.

I think the UFC is really falling apart as a product. Dana's feeling profit is hampered by half the martial arts in mixed martial arts.

It was a shocking performance, yeah. I felt sorry for Potieira, the weirdo that he is. Almeida didn't impress me at all, can't see him amounting to much in MMA.

The booth was defending it. “He’s from kickboxing and he’s used to big gloves”. Pathetic. How about, he just doesn’t care because he knows that the ref won’t enforce the rules.
I don't think he doesn't care honestly. He always fought that way and changing how you fight in the middle of one is not easily done. I don't recall that happening in his former fights.

But yeah, he still should have been held accountable for it.

And everyone seems to have missed the 12-6 elbows he did at the end of one the round.

Anyway not a got look on him and the ref especially

he should had ref the aldo's fight, at least he would stopped that wall and stall from bautista

but not taking 1 point from almeida was a terrible mistake

eye pokes should've gotten a point taken.

Separations from teh fence were too soon though I like what he's going for.

The 3rd & final separation was justified imo, as Potieria went limp & was just holding for the sake of holding, & the first 2 might had been more of the same, but teh ref needs to give more time for them to work.

That said... I think it's a problem how much time people get to work in a lot of fights, so I don't want to completely dismiss this line of thinking, but for sure we need to allow them more than 10 seconds to establish control before we expect them to move on to advancing or striking.

Does anyone know if this guy was spoken to about his horrible reffing. I’ve never seen that many eye pokes in a single fight and without a point taken.

I bet Jon Jones is calling the UFC to try and get this guy to ref his fight against Stipe.
Chris Weidman was also a fan and requested him for his NYC fight too.

The ref did a terrible job, and it's too bad, because I was really looking forward to this fight. Almeida is still a bright prospect (despite his loss to Kopylov, imo) and now his win was overshadowed by poor refereeing. Potieria probably still would've lost, but his overall game changed after getting poked multiple times (he's usually more of a pressure fighter).

2nd poke a point should be taken. The way Almedia had his hands open you could see it coming a mile away.

I’d also like to see speedo style goggles being worn in the octagon.
