I met Raul Marquez earlier today. He's here in Houston for a South Coast Boxing MMA/boxing fight card for tomorrow. He was cool as hell. Met him and his family.

He confirmed that he will fight Arthur Abraham in Germany this October, just three weeks after he fought on Showtime.

As a side note, Hector "El Macho" Camacho is fighting in the main event. He weighed in at 154 lbs. and looks...okay for his age.

I'll have some pics of the event and weigh-ins this weekend.

Didn't get a pic w/Marquez, but I hope to do that tomorrow before the fights.

Yeah Marquez has always been a class act... Abraham is too much for him though..

I didn't tell him that, hahaha.

I'm not sure how I feel about that match-up, but I'm just glad Marquez got a big-name fight. He doesn't know who will front the event.

they need to set up Pavlik-Abraham because if Pavlik can win that fight....and Calzaghe beats Jones....then the Pavlik-Calzaghe bout would be HUGE...even better than it would be if they fought now.

I too have met Marquez before and he is indeed cool as hell. Unfortunately, I see him getting destroyed by Abraham.

AA will beat Marquez. Rnd 4 stoppage. Then i reckon AA will fight John Duddy or Pavlik, depending on whether Calzaghe beat Jones and decides to defend his WBO super middleweight against Pavlik. Word has it that Pavlik will consider moving upto Super middle because he sometimes struggles to make middleweight.

Update:

Hector Camacho won some alphabet soup title against Perry Ballard via corner stoppage in the 4th round.

The beginning had a lot of clinch work. There were some headbutts/head-to-face rubbing in the clinches. Camacho shoulder-butted Ballard and Ballard flopped like a soccer player. He tried to get the fight stopped.

Camacho landed some power shots in the third and fourth rounds until Ballard's corner threw in the towel.

I met Rocky Juarez and he confirmed his fight against Jorge Barrios on the undercard of the Juan Diaz - Michael Katsidis fight on September 6th.

Abraham And Pavlik would be the best fight the devision could hope for. 1 champ is all we need

Asking Pavlik to beat Abraham is asking a lot. Abraham isn't the kind of guy you look past and say "yeah I'm looking forward to Fighting Calzaghe after this".

True. I feel Pavlik would have his hands way too full with Abraham. It seems like Abraham's style is suited to fight guys like Pavlik.

Indeed, speaking of Abraham's style, go see your thread on splitting guards.

Yeah, I'm a fan of AA. Actually may be my favorite boxer at the moment. I see him beating Raul, and if he fights Pavlik like is rumoured? I see him KOing The Ghost.

I don't know about a KO. Arthur is perfectly contend to decision guys who have very strong resolve, and will come forward all night, even if he CAN land.

See Kofi Jantuah.

Agreed. They should have just given one of those opponents that fell through what they asked for, Kelly was gonna KO any of those guys anyway.
Raul Marquez is a badass guy, not many people come off of a two year retirement and KO loss to get a world title shot at 36 years old.

Marquez won't win, but he is there to fight. Should be quite exciting while it last. It's unfortunate this is not his weight and he doesn't have that punch to really hurt Abraham. Expect Marquez to unload and Abraham blocking with his high guard. Eventually Marquez will be countered and KOed. I say late KO.

Jantuah a worker. I like him. Tough, strong guy. I remember Kassem Ouma performed well against him and looked really good. Too bad Ouma is downhill now.

too bad not one person in this world wants to watch this fight....give up that cheap ass IBF strap and go fight pavlik
or strum

It should be a pretty exciting fight. I want to see it. Marquez won't win, but he is going to provide an exciting fight.
