Can someone please tell me if there are any differences between Under Armor and MMA Rashguards.

Rashguards are made to be sturdy as fuck. Underarmor is not.

UA's can be easily ripped. Rashguards made specifically for grappling tends to be more durable. The UA I have was pretty damn close to ripping..so I stopped wearing it for nogi class...I just use it for what it's meant for, and that's running/working out.

BTW, I've heard rumors that UnderArmor will be releasing an MMA line of clothing in the not so distant future. That's just a rumor so for all you UA fans (like me) Keep your eyes peeled..and hopefully they'll have nice rashguards/shorts :D. Still, nothing beats the originals, Sprawl, nogi, tapouts and all that. Now that Nike/UA/Adidas?/RBK...are making it into the scene, who knows how they'll fit in with the competition.

Agreed 100%. Same with grappling boardshorts (Like Sprawl or Tapout). They are made way better than regular off the shelf swim trunks.

I use the underarmour turf shirts for grappling as well as working out and have had no problems with them ripping!!

i use UA compression shorts for grappling, they won't rip, but there rashguards are questionable.

well regular UA shirts are pretty thin.. so they are prone to ripping.. just go and buy a good rashguard.. i just wear a regular t shirt cuz people like to grab and rip rashguards..

+1

If you buy the compression ones (not the regular tee shirts) and wear them tight they won't rip b/c they don't provide anything to grab or get caught. I've worn them for years in practice and tourneys without a problem.

No doubt a rashguard is better still but you're paying a lot more and you can pick up UA gaar at any sports or department store.

I second that. I tore a brand new UA long-sleeve shirt after one JJ class. Not cool. IMO, it's worth the money to invest in a quality rashguard.

Are you sure about that? All the Under Armour gear I've ever seen that could even remotely double for a rashguard has been just about as expensive if not more expensive than a good rashguard that's intended for grappling.

Damn you guys are making me feel cheap for wearing my wal mart specials. Havent ripped on me yet... doubt I'd care though!

i don't know how you guys rip your under armour.i have a long sleeve one from like,3 years ago that i use frequently and other than some slight pilling of the fabric it is in good shape.do your training partners grab it and use it like a gi?

I have bought the fake under armour they sell at walmart and it works perfectly fine. It costs 12.99 and it has lasted me now 5 months. I will never spend 30 dollars on a rash guard, I don't think they are worth it.

I agree 100%. If your UA rips, its not because its not durable, its because your rolling partner ripped your shirt when he shouldn't have been grabbing it.
I just don't see the sense in spending an extra 20 dollars for an "MMA" rash guard with logos on it.
