Gracie "Barra"

How is it pronounced?

I always thought it was pronounced like "baja" since the R's are pronounced with an H sound. But i hear a lot of people saying it like "bar-uh"

How do you pronounce it?

Most of our professors are from Brazil, and they pronounce it "bah-ha". It's something I've decided it's safe to imitate.

yes, here in Brazil we pronounce it Gracie "Bah-ha" as said b4
the sound of the double Rs are like an itch in your throat
i believe is /R\/ in phonemic listing
cheers

I don't get the "R" prounced "H" thing.

If that's true, why is Rorion pronounced "Horion" and not "HoHion" and "Hyron" and not "HyHon Gracie"

not sure but this is my guess:

it has to do with syllables. Rorion or Ror~ion is broken down Ror (Hor) ion

Barra is broken down Bar~ra or Bar~Ha thus Ba~ha

No. It's the double r. That's also pronounced as an h. Single r's in the middle of a word are regular.

Its simple Rorion would be Rohion if it was written RoRRion.

And in the beginning of a word there is no need to put double R.

I live in Barra and its simply pronounced as: ba ha
