Hi guys, just a few questions about the avengers bjj

So from what i understand, Pablo Popovitch and Cyborg bring their teams together for major comps?

How does "team avenger" training work? Do you guys all train together? Is there special avenger team training, not on either timetable.

Does being a member to Pablo's gym, allow you to travel and train with Cyborg's and vice versa?

Just wondering the logistics of it all. Thank you :D

They combine their teams for competitions and do a lot of cross training between gyms, especially the competition training classes. It is just a way to get better training and a way to be able to have a chance as a team against the Aliance, GB, Checkmat, etc. Pretty cool that they are willing to do this. Adds a lot to be able to increase your pool of training partners not to mention being exposed to very different games. It is actually 3 schools, Cyborgs in Miami, Pablos in Ft Lauderdale, and his Pembroke Pines school run by Vagner Rocha. Then also some others who regularly come in to train like Hillary, and I think the Genesis Jiu Jitsu guys from TX might be competing under The Avengers at the bigger comps.

Cyborg has Gi comp training MWF 11-1 and Pablo has no gi on T Th at 1. Great training for anyone who wants to get ready for comps.

Not sure if Cyborg is still doing it but he used to be set up to house guys who wanted to come train. People would come in for 1 week up to 2 months for a guy over the summer. You can contact him through cyborgbjj.com if you have any questions about if he is still able to do that and what the rates would be.

Anyway I think that two smaller independent schools joining up like this is a pretty cool idea and great for the level of training.

I see in GI comps, Cyborg competes under Carlson's, and in NOGI they all do Avengers.

@Title Fight, why not? It puts them in a position to compete with Alliance, Barra, Checkmat, and Lloyd Irvin's for a Team Title.

Not just major competitions, but everyday training. Hence the formation, they all became reliant on one another to maintain high level training in South Florida. Vagner, Pablo, and Cyborg are all within driving distance and you will see high ranks from each team cross training daily at each gym. Generally Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 10 at Cyborg's is the strongest gi training (where BBs from Avengers teams and a couple other close schools will get together) while Tuesday/Thursday at Pablo's in the afternoon is nogi Avengers/invite only. Pablo and Cyborg roll with the team every day (I get an ass whooping from each, daily, when down there), but I'll say "regularly" in case any of you happen to be nitpicky about them traveling a lot.

Yes, cross training between the gyms is accepted and encouraged with a couple asterisks. Generally, they want each other's students to cross train but not more than 1-2 times a week (really one, unless you're counting Tues/Thurs) because they don't really want to be taking money from the other.

Outside of the competitions, they maintain separate affiliations under each of their names but the openness between schools remains. Cyborg has his FightSports gyms and affiliates (Brazil, Ireland, NY, TX, FL, and a couple others), Pablo has his, but they come together for competition training and competition to be able to compete with other major teams.

Cyborg's done so much for me, and Matt and Roli understand that I need that presence in competition, that I became Avengers as well. Hell, Cyborg's been the one in my corner for everything since purple belt and has never charged me a dime (taken full advantage of free paintings/murals/cleaning/cooking/front desk work however, hahahah) so I've been a part of the team for a while, it just took me a while to realize it. :)

I don't know, i suppose i shouldn't have an opinion one way or the other cause i haven't really thought about it much but it just seems kinda like a short cut to me. If they want to "compete" with the big boys then they need to grow and build there own schools to do so.

Read my posts...they do.

How is it different from any other team in BJJ? Teams are formed, split up, and re-formed all the time in this sport. Some are big, some are small, and their business models can be completely different, but they are training together, sharing techniques and strategies and helping each other improve, so why shouldn't they compete under a common flag?

You think thats how the “big boys” got that way? You can pay to join GB or Alliance. Lloyd Irvin and Leo Dalla’s affiliates team up for the big comps. More and more small schools that have affiliations together through instructors, teammates,etc.. are joining together for bigger comps. I think its a good thing.

If you think about it you will come to the conclusion that this is how (and why) most teams were formed. Alliance started with Gigi, Jacare and both Gurgel's combining their teams to make a stronger team in comps, so did Nova Uniao with Dede and Wendell. Brasa is also the combination of a few different teams/coaches. It is just the way things are done. "A Uniao faz a Forca"

They're pretty good guys. Alot of people will bad mouth them duw to their recent success.
Vagner has been really cool and invited me to come down and train several times when I see him. They all seem really open minded and genuinely good guys. Mixing the schools seems to be a pretty resourceful way to get better training for comps. Its probably the best way to be able to compete at the international level, by combining forces..otherwise you limit yourself to a smaller pool of training partners. They are having training sessions with guys from all over Florida now. If you are going to compete at the highest level, you need high level training partners...They've found a smart way to accomplish this.
I dont know about the name though!

I don't think i like that they all compete under the same banner.

what is weird is buchecha competing for both chekmat and avengers

(if i made this up, i appologize, but i believe buchecha is checkmat for competed for avengers for some tourney)

Cool, sounds like i was off base with my original thoughts on it.

Love the fact that they are all coming together to cross train and roll for sure, just wasn't hip to the idea of not being successful under there own banner. But sounds like that is what you have to do to keep up with the much bigger schools.

So Hillary, how would you compare Pablo and Cyborgs Jiu Jitsu styles?

The should divide the team points by the number of compeititors entered under that team.
