Question about Spartacus season 2

Been watching Spartacus and its an amazing show, but ran into a wall, would like some information without being massive spoilers, who is Gannicus? I don't remember seeing him in season 1, I knwo I saw him in one of the episodes of season 2 in one of Amineus flashbacks, but thats it, only like 1-2 scenes of him, did I miss an episode or something? confused

After you watch Spartacus: Blood and Sand (season 1), you should immediately watch the mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena which is a prequel to season 1. There they will introduce Gannicus. The main reason why they did the prequel mini-series was the main star got sick and it was still unknown if he could continue.

After you finish Gods of the Arena, proceed to Spartacus: Vengeance (season 2).

He was first introduced in Gods of the Arena. A famous Gladiator before Spartacus and Crixus. Oenomaus and Gannicus were like brothers. Also one of the leaders in The Third Servile war.

I recommend watching Gods of the Arena.

IMMEDIATELY stop watching seasons 2 and go back to Gods of the Arena.

Gods of the Arena is a short series prequel. Only 6 or 8 episodes but it is amazing.

They made a prequel because the actor who played Spartacus got cancer. Initially he was going ok so it was a way to give him time to recover and keep the show going. Sadly, things got worse for Andy and he died. He gave the consent to the show to recast. Thats why Spartacus is a different dude from s2 onwards.
