PunchTown is another up-and-coming company from the United Kingdom and I was fortunate enough to review their Fracture BXR Pro Boxing Gloves.

New on the market and incorporating the unique

That design is really out there!

Seems like an odd choice to show the puncher with a broken metacarpal...

Indeed it's really flashy. Not really my thing but the gloves have grown into me seen as they're so friggin' comfy but still packs a punch.

If you think that's crazy, you should see their shinguards. :D

Though they are releasing a bit more under the radar designs soon enough. Here's a look at their MMA gloves:

Those are rebranded OTM gloves.

Good review but the glove is hideous. Maybe geared to the Affliction or Ed Hardy wearing crowd but ugly nonetheless. I still don't believe that's even leather but if it's true that they stretch a thin layer so tight over the foam that the texturing is lost, then those aren't gonna last long.

Without having seen On the Mat gloves personally, I can't really comment though this may likely be the case seeing photos.

I'm hoping their next couple of designs would be more low-key but with the designs that are present at the moment, they really do stand for bold designs. The people that I'm with contact with at PunchTown really know their products and I'll take their word for it that the leather is indeed genuine. And I do hope that you're wrong that the quality was sacrificed but it's too early to tell -- I've only had these for a month and I do hope they last since as mentioned, the lining is really comfortable and it gives adequate protection. I still like my Fairtex BGV1's though. :D

And with regards to PunchTown themselves, I'll be doing an interview with them soon to see where they're coming from.

I keep looking from my laptop screen onto Clamp's photos and they are virtually identical with stitching as well.

If these indeed are rebranded OTM gloves, I wouldn't know if the 14oz and 18oz would have a difference in features other than the weight of the glove but Clamp did mention the gloves not having holes, while these have some in the thumb.

The manufacturers may have seen Clamp's review and made a bit of an improvement. Though, he's done his review 2 months after usage so I'll give it another month and see if we get the same type of results.

Clamp I'd like to ask, did the leather on yours crack up like that within a month of use or was it afterwards?

Cheers.

Alright, so I emailed Punchtown regarding the gloves' similarities to the OTM ones and here's what they had to say.

Punchtown said:
That's interesting. The BXR are from the same manufacturer as OTM.

They are certainly not a rebranded version of OTM though. As with most manufacturers, they produce products for multiple clients and we just happen to be one of those which share the same production setup as OTM.

To further explain, we took samples of the manufacturers original 'base' model glove and changed many aspects in terms of consistency, design and quality. This was based on testing the gloves and getting feedback from fighters. The manufacturer then took our feedback and improved the model further, which I expect then also goes towards improving other brand's products too.

We use the best leather hides that they have available for that model of glove. We have superior lining which was ordered in especially for the Punchtown brand. In addition, we ensured hard piping was implemented around all of the edges as opposed to the cheaper version that was being used. The thumb was improved in construction and fit. The stitching has been improved over the standard model too. We ensure that all of the IFT moulded foams inners are consistent across all sizes, which was not originally the case. All of these changes were at an additional cost from the manufacturer. More importantly, we have been very tight on consistency and quality, asking for each product to be carefully checked.

Our forthcoming new range of gloves are from manufacturers who supply top brands such as Hayabusa, Title and others. The similarities between some of these models are similar too. It comes down to the manufactures production techniques and materials. We provide the style guides and the manufacturers come back with their best interpretation of it, which is usually borrowed from their expertise and experience. Bear in mind that all of our current products are 1st generation. This isn't to say that they are inferior in anyway. To the contrary, we had to ensure that our first product line-up could stand up on its own merits against any other brand and our products do this with flying colours. However, it is from these that we take important feedback from customers and nurture our new products based on the information gathered. A perfect example of this is our Karpal eX glove. This is our first 2nd gen product and as such has been totally designed from the ground up by ourselves, based on feedback from fighters and the innovative nature of those within our company. A further example would be the forthcoming BXR eX, again built from the ground up based on feedback from our fighters and personal experience.

I hope this goes some way to explaining why the OTM gloves may appear to be similar. Please understand, our BXR gloves are not a rebrand of another brand. We would never want to do this as we have too much innovation and creativity to plagiarise. All we can say is watch this space, you'll see things unlike anything done before.

We are not the same ;)

Hey man. Yes the cracks were appearing after 1 month of use before I sold them.

I am actually working on a review of the OTM gloves now. Never saw clamps review sorry Bro;) I agree these look just like my OTMs. To be honest I have been using mine for a little over a week and already seeing cracks. :(

Damn that is really bad. 1 week of any kind of usage shouldn't result in cracks. It is nice to be validated though lol. See guys I don't BS my reviews! ;)

No doubt and I really liked the way these gloves looked at first. I am disappointed. I am glad I saw your review I thought I was just being hard on em.

I think in this market you gotta be hard and honest about gear or else people/companies will just shovel out rebranded gear or crappy gear.

I agree 100% I will review anything that a company wants but just keep in mind it is my duty to be 100% honest in my reviews. Up to this point I have been. If I don't like something I say so. So far I have only had one company that didn't appreciate that. All the rest have found it helpful and typically made the corrections I suggested. I think as a reviewer you cant like everything you review, that just doesn't make sense.

I have both the Punchtown and BTF, I can't see what the difference is, I cannot notice any upgrades between the two.

Anybody know what factory they are made at?
