Punching the opponent's chest? How does it work as a strategy?

In this fight, it looks like Michael Johnson throws lots of punches at Khabib's chest, and that seems to, in one way or another, let him land a head shot that dazes Khabib.

I haven't heard much about this, except one of Anderson Silva's opponents being told to "punch a hole through his chest" in one fight. But it seems pretty effective. Do chest punches do that much damage? Are they used to set-up headshots? Or just to stop people who have good head movement?

In sparring once my coach got me with a pretty good one.

Changed my whole perspective on things.

If you aim for the chest and the guy ducks, guess what ya get

Btw that was the first Weidman fight

They're prob aiming for the solar plexus which will knock the wind out of you and even if you miss it's still annoying getting hit anywhere in the body. Hell, Bendo was punching Nate in the legs during their title fight and it really affected him.

Real G ish

It’s to stop their heart , it’s dim mak and should be BANNED

Head sits on top of the chest. Most movement side to side or up and down or leaning backwards will put the head closer to where the solar plexus increasing the chance of landing a head shot.

I am working with my son on counter punching in the Dojo right now, my solar plexus is so bruised I am having problems with balance, I have a brain injury and use my core to walk properly. Seems when the core is damaged like mine is now, it makes my balance centers poor. He is 8 and hits like a mule, but still no pro, i imagine a pro targeting the same spot would cause far worse damage, it has really slowed me down.

Used against evasive fighters, more chance to hit a bobbing weaving head and its better then hitting something then air.

This

Seen a shot to the solar plexus stop dudes in their tracks.

Should be used more often in WMMA, the dreaded titty crusher!

“Punch a fucking hole in his chest”

On top of aiming for the solar plexus and possibly catching someone ducking(perhaps even shooting in Khabibs case) it's much easier to hit the torso compared to the head. Chest doesn't hurt me personally as much as the head or a lower body shot but a good punch will still sting and the damage does accumulate.

Sounds like you should not have been allowed to breed and you have long existing brain trauma. Good luck with both of those.

What kind of jerk-job response is this?

“Uhhhh, sounds like you should not have been allowed to breed... uhhhhh.”

I can understand having questions for the man, but your response was hardly warranted.

You sound like a complete idiot, bud.

You’re either a kid, or a low achiever. I’m embarrassed for you.

If an opponent moves his head well, it can be a good idea to throw the jab at the chest, which is harder to get out of the way. If you hit the chest, you may have him off balance and can follow through with the cross. With Khabib it might also be a consideration that you want to make sure you hit him just to keep him at bay.

Your hand has refused to allow you to breed again has it? This why you so crusty?

Pay a person if you are soo blue balled up pal, dont worry, no regulars here has done different
Didn't expect much of a reply from you, you didn't disappoint.

Sounds like , due to a long existing brain trauma , you're an asshole who should not be allowed to breed .
