Pulled groin - when did you go back to rolling?

If you have pulled a groin muscle, how did you know when to go back?

I pulled my groin in late January. This is the slowest healing injury I have ever had. At first, it hurt to roll over in bed. It hurt to walk. It hurt to cough. Stretching was out of the question. Sharp pain in a bad way.

Fast forward to now. I can stretch. Pain is still there but it is duller. The longer I stretch, the more the tightness and pain goes away. I can work the abductor and adductor machines at the gym now. I don't feel the dull pain until I reach about 145 lbs (when I first got injured, I couldn't even do 25lbs).

Bottom line - I am not 100%. But, at the rate I am healing, it could be a year until ALL the pain/tightness goes away.

Any insight on when the best time to start going back to BJJ class from those that have experienced this injury would be appreciated.

I pull my groin every morning, sometimes at night too. Never did me any harm.

it can take a long time to heal completely. mine was painful but I managed to train through it, I had to give up running. not sure about doing weight training on it. id let it rest as much as possible. the pain was with me for over a year.

Took me 6-8 weeks

Guerilla, when you went back, was it still sore/stiff? Were you afraid of re-injury?

I am at 12 weeks now. I am not so worried about pain, I just don't want to restart the clock and start over if I re-injure it.

shit, I sat me on the sides for 3 months....

IT FUCKING SUCKS!

hear me out, acupuncture works great to reduce inflammation, it worked for my ankles and knee, as a matter of fact, theres like 5 guys in my gym who use acupuncture for injuries... try it.

Have you seen a doctor? Sounds like you have a torn muscle.

Mtruitt - I'm GB too. I haven't seen a doctor because I am seeing progress in the healing. It is just going a lot slower than I hoped. I am not sure what they can really do anyways except put me in an MRI and charge me a couple thousand dollars.

I tried doing some solo drills yesterday. I was fine for about 95% of them. Then, I would put weight on the bad leg on a weird angle and the pain would hit.

I'm not ready. It will be probably another couple months.

I get to learn patience. Crud.

How did you hurt it? Also, you should look up sports hernia's. See if the symptoms are similar. The reason I say this is you should be back to normal about now, but that surely depends on what type of game you play and genetics. Good Luck! Injuries suck.

You would not really need a MRI, but as severe as your groin seems a doctor would be helpful in consulting with how much activity you can do and for advice on a physical therapy regimen.

Personally I have never gone through physical therapy sessions for any of my knee injuries except to see if the rehab protocol and exercises where in line with what they would have me doing

I'm currently healing from a minor groin strain. Keep strengthening the area. My chiropractor and sports massage therapist help a lot. It's slightly uncomfortable with a guy's elbow in your groin, but it does help...

I think it is a sports hernia. It happened when my opponent was opening my guard. Instead of one hand on my hip, he had it more towards my groin.

Once you pull it...it can be rehurt again very easy. I do stretches after bjj practice and the gym now. Eventually it goes back to feeling fine.

I have pulled mine about 4 times. I trained through it but it hurt. Eventually after about 6 weeks I would wake up and not notice it at all.

I seriously doubt it's a sport hernia, you wouldn't have seen any progress at all if that's what it was. I had one of those, it just got progressively worse over time as doctors continually misdiagnosed me until I eventually found a specialist who knew what he was talking about. By that time, I had ended up with sports hernias on both sides and I was in a constant state of discomfort. The feeling started in my lower abdomen and would radiate down to my nuts. Stretching didn't help, at no point in time did I ever feel like I was getting even a little bit better until I finally got the surgery.

Sorry to hear about that. Maybe you are right. My injury is not like that at all. I am seeing progress. But, I am not ready to be on the mat. If someone did a simple stacking guard pass, I would cry out in pain. Not good.

I was taught in Jiu Jitsu to accept the position I am in, relax, and wait for an opening to escape/reverse. That is where i am at now with this injury.

My groin strain turned out to be a hernia but it did get somewhat better. Some days I don't notice it at all. But it's still there.
