If it were under pride rules who would win? I got bas by (t)ko.

that fight was going to take place with K-1 rules(probably mma gloves not sure tho) but the PRIDE matchmakers scheduled Wand with Iwasaki.

would have been an awesome fight, i really wouldnt know who would win it.

Wanderlei holds the distinct grappling advantage and on the feet it's about even with Bas perhaps edging it when it comes to 1-shot KO power to the head and body.

Prime Wand was a monster. It is hard to remember that from watching him now. Now he plants his feet and throws haymakers. Back in the day he came forward with punches, knees, kicks, even illegal headbutts, and he had a great sprawl with decent wrestling.

Under Pride rules I have to go with Wand.

Bas was from a slightly different era than wand. I think Wanderlei could've taken it. Igor vs Bas would've been an intriguing fight though

Bas would have tooled Wanderlei on the feet. Bas's ground game was decent enough once he got it going.

Actually an interesting fight.

Bas' obvious weakness was the grappling but he was a pretty vicious striker... not sure Wand could get around that, despite being a much more well rounded fighter.

Bas was much -- much -- better standing than Wand has ever dreamed of being.

One, was a trained standup fighter.. the other ran forward throwing "hooks". (oh, and a few knees).

Doesn't Wand have gthe same total # of submission victories as Liddell?

Bas grappling would have been FINE against Wand.

I think Bas has better technical striking and grappling would be irrelevant in a fight between them.

Bas wins it imo

Hard to say, never thought of this fight before.

I agree Igor vs. Bas would have been sweet.

I have honestly no idea, but I would have loved to see this fight.
Love them both, but always rooting for Wand (unless he fights Sakuraba of course :) ).

I think if Bas was in his prime in 2013, it would be a much different Bas... a much better Bas.

Don't forget, facilities were scarce- income was low, top medical coverage was nonexistent.
There was only so much at their disposal.

Wanderlei in his prime or not, probably wouldn't change how he is in performing in the UFC today.

He can't seems to hang with technical strikers. Even when he fought Stann, when he was going wild he was getting dropped. He only ended up winning because he started composing himself, and timing his shots... and eventually dropped Brian with a perfectly timed counter-hook.

I think Bas has a much higher glass ceiling compared to Wanderlei.

But again, it comes down to the setting as well. I think if the UFC allowed knees to grounded opponents and soccer kicks, Wanderlei would have done much better.

But also, Bas was knocking guys out with open palm strikes because closed fists weren't allowed.

Too many variables. We'd never really know.

Personally I'd say Bas based on a gut call.

Wand went toe to toe with 2004 Mirko and Mark Hunt, he could have stood with Bas and I think Wands ground game is much better than Rutten's.

Wand was aggressive and that cost him at times, but I think the Wand that fought Mirko and Hunt and Rampage would have beaten Rutten.
