One of the match ups I would loved to seen.

Cain at his prime was a monster.

I think it would be a very competitive fight, but I don't know who would win.

Sea Level Cain on his absolute best day, no injuries, smokes Jones at HW.
Before taking down and choking out white belt Bon Gamin, Jon standing at HW looked like nothing special.

The only thing that can defeat Jones is Jones. So it would solely depend on if Jones manages to mess it up and get DQ/NC'd either during or after the fight.

So I guess it's 50/50.

Cain is was always hittable but I think you can question whether Jones had the power to hurt him, most of his finishes depend more on lower percentage kicks/knees than counters, only really Machida comes to mind in terms of hurting someone with a counter punch.

Were I think Cain does obviously offer more than Cormier is in speed, I think its much harder to keep him at arms lenght than DC.

The only way to stop sea level Cain is to hit him hard in the chin when he is closing the distance. Jones does not have that power.

Jones stayed away from HW his whole career for a reason and only move up to HW for a reason.

He never wanted the smoke with prime Cain, prime JDS, prime Stipe or prime Ngannou.

Hell, Jones didn't want the smoke with prime DC at HW either and only fought DC who had to cut insane amounts of weight in his late 30s.

Jones preferred to fight journey men like Anthony Smith and mids LHWs like Reyes instead of testing himself at HW.

Peak Cain would have violated him.
