Florida Governor Rick Scott is being pressured by the Florida Civil Rights Association to repeal the Florida Red Camera Law after recent report by the Legislature

All speed traps are about revenue, not safety. If it was about safety, it wouldn't be against the law to flash your lights at oncoming traffic.

I agree completely. Red light cameras are bullshit. Next thing they will take pictures of your registration sticker and if it is expired they will mail you a ticket for that.

They are bullshit, especially down in Washington DC where they have roads with speed limits that change from 55 to 30 and amounts in between with cameras all around to catch u in fransition.

Ive also heard that the companies lobby big time and that they retain the majority of the fine. And in many cases, intersections that have them don't become safer (the reason we were told initially that they were installed. People start slamming on their breaks wh3n it turns yellow)

There was a lawsuit that found intersections that had red light cameras had shorter yellows, resulting in more profit, i mean tickets.

I am actually surprised they don't do that.

Also, agree with the rest of your post. An Illinois news paper did a study a few years back that discovered that well over 75% of all red light camera tickets came from right hand turns, and that the police/municipality already knew that, but claimed publicly that these cameras were needed to help save lives.

I think an easy solution for this would be to make it so that you couldn't be ticketed for right hand turns, and see how much shit they raise over taking that away.

Also, many of the companies that build install and collect the money for the tickets are independent companies (at least in Illinois they are). That was another thing the report blew the lid off of.

thats exactly how dc got me. $200 ticket.

Red light and speeding cameras are bullshit. I think this is one issue where all War Roomers can agree.

Why more of these things don't get taken out with a .17HMR or something like that I'll never know.

They ended red light cameras in my city, Los Angeles, a couple years ago. It's just a scam. The companies that run these systems sell cities on extra revenues, under the guise of "increasing safety." But they don't increase revenues or safety; the companies suck up all the money, and there are tons of increased enforcement and collection costs. Meanwhile, they also don't increase safety. Just pure scam.

Holy fuck!

We've gotten to the point where machines are enforcing the goddamn law.

What really pisses me off to no friggin end is the fact that you have to prove it wasn't you in the car before a judge throws the ticket out. WHAT THE FUCK?! Im guilty until proven innocent?! What is this... North Korea? Why are these still constitutional?

So the cities are getting none of the hundreds of millions generated annually? I find that difficult to believe.

They get some, but by the time you subtract all the company costs + increased enforcement costs + refusals to pay, it ends up being not nearly so much money.

Cities are so incompetent they can't keep their share of it. And their costs of doing anything bloat so fast and so easily that it's very hard for them to take money in apart from taxation.

To me they make the roads less safe. Missing a red by a split second is a lot less dangerous than slamming on your brakes to not go through the light. In florida its really bad. Last time I was there it seemed like every light I stopped at I would see that camera flash. But fuck Florida roads in general. I hate driving on the turnpike.

Why do you hate capitalism?

The cities are just trying to bring in some revenue and the companies just trying to make some money.

You're blaming this on capitalism?

Seriously?

Florida also got caught shortening the yellow after they installed the cameras.

Depends on the state (bold).

Red light cameras are bull and just a way to try and make money.

Not sure how it is in other places but here the owner of the car is fined no mater who was driving. The fine is 50 dollars and does not go against your driving record. The company can not send out a fine until the video and picture is reviewed by a police officer and they say it was a violation. And you are given a number and the web site to review the video yourself. You can also appeal it and go to court if you want. You can not say it was not you driving and get off like I stated the owner is fined no matter who is driving. I guess you could take the driver if it wasn't you to small claims. So the only thing you can dispute is if it was a violation.

I like how these people handle the scam cams.

Reminds me of the old scam van vid. All they wanna do is take yo money!

Only time I have ever been issued a red light fine is when a taxi driver drove through a red light and hit me. A fellow taxi driver showed up 10 mins later and said he saw the whole thing. So I got charged, I fucking wish that intersection had a camera.

With the ability to have significant sized crashes due to people running red lights I don't a single problem with them.

A bit of extra speed is no where near as dangeours as running a red light.

And if you run a red I consider it near indefenceable.

Florida also got caught shortening the yellow after they installed the cameras.

Now that seems fishy if true.
