@Bacco have you ever been to Sardinia? Do you like Sardinians?
I know other Italians can't usually understand Sardu but maybe they would use standard Italian with you.
I've never been to Sardinia (or Corsica) but I would like to go some time, it seems interesting.
Edit: by the way this is the first time three Italian men have reached the fourth round in the Wimbledon Men's SIngles (Flavio Cobolli, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego). Does Jannik Sinner have your full support and do you consider him Italian? As he is obviously an ethnic German but from the far north of Italy.
Edit 2: Apparently that part of Italy (South Tyrol) was only switched from Austria to Italy in 1919.
