This Saturday August 5 is another UFC Fight Night. This one features a clash of Cory Sandhagen 16-4 vs. Rob Font 20-6. The co-main is women's straweights Jessica Andrade 24-11 vs. Tatiana Suarez 9-0. Elsewhere on the card are a pair of Light Heavyweight matchups: Dustin Jacoby vs. Kenny Nzechukwu and Tanner Bozer vs. Aleksa Camue along with two Featherweight fights: Gavin Tucker vs. Diego Lopes and Billy Quarantillo vs. Damon Jackson. The card also includes two bantamweight scraps and a flyweight showdown.

The fight night will be in Nashville, Tennessee, home of Vanderbilt University and its world class Medical Center. The State Capital of Tennessee, Nashville is the state's most populous city with a current population of 720,000.

Home to the Grande Ole Oprey (the world's longest running live radio show) Nashville is nicknamed 'Music City' for the Nashville Sound of rich and varied forms of country music. Legendary Allman Brothers Duane and Greg are from there as are Bela Fleck, June Carter Cash, Gillian Welch and bands including Los Straightjackets and Lambchop.

More recently Nashville has earned the moniker "The Hot Chicken Capital" becoming known for the local specialty cuisine hot chicken. The Music City Hot Chicken Festival is hosted annually in Nashville and several restaurants make this spicy version of southern fried chicken.

Here's a thread to share your views on the fights along with your favorite fried chicken recipes. Please keep it civil and courteous in the tradition of southern hospitality.

edited to add thanks to @vinnie245: Sean Woodson got a new opponent in Dennis Buzukja so we're back up to 12 fights, this is his 4th opponent btw lol.

Here's the first part of the preview & predictions from Shillan & Duffy. Due to forces beyond their control, Keith and Ben were forced to split the UFC on ESPN 50 preview in two. Here is the breakdown of the "UFC Nashville" undercard, with background, analysis, detailed predictions and picks for all five fights. If all goes according to plan, the main card preview should be out Tuesday morning. Meanwhile Ben must continue watching The Wire.

Well, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two guitar pickers in Nashville.
And they can pick more notes than the number of ants on a Tennessee ant hill.

This should be a good card. I'm a fan of all the fighters in both the main and co-main events. Don't want to see any of them lose but that's the game. I'll be happy for the winners.

Lol is that from a song or maybe a funny story?
Enjoy the fights my friend.

Sean Woodson got a new opponent in Dennis Buzukja so we're back up to 12 fights, this is his 4th opponent btw lol.

From the event wiki:
Sean Woodson and Steve Garcia were expected to meet in a featherweight bout at the event.[13] However, the bout was scrapped after Garcia got injured and Woodson was booked against Jesse Butler.[14] In turn, Butler was removed by the Nevada Athletic Commission during fight week due to a recent knockout loss two months earlier.[15] He was replaced by promotional newcomer Mairon Santos.[16] However, due to visa issues, Santos was removed from the bout and replaced with promotional newcomer Dennis Buzukja.[17]

Hey thanks man. What a wild ride for Woodsen. Glad another fight was added.

Preview: UFC on ESPN 50 ‘Sandhagen vs. Font’
Sandhagen vs. Font
TOM FEELY

It is always nice when the Ultimate Fighting Championship ventures outside the UFC Apex for a non-major event, as the promotion usually puts on a stronger card; and the company’s return to Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday at Bridgestone Arena will be no exception. The UFC on ESPN 50 main event should be an excellent in what is essentially a bantamweight bout contested at a 140-pound catchweight. Cory Sandhagen looks to continue his run of beating every potential contender until a shot at the title becomes undeniable, while Rob Font gets a huge opportunity to build on some newfound momentum after a big win in April. Beyond that, the next two fights do most of the heavy lifting in terms of the rest of the main draw. Tatiana Suarez fights at strawweight for the first time since 2019 and looks to state her case against former champion Jessica Andrade, while Dustin Jacoby faces Kennedy Nzechukwu in a fascinating pairing of fringe-Top 15 light heavyweights. Add in a fun lightweight opener pitting Ignacio Bahamondes against Ludovit Klein, and this should be nothing less than a good time.

Now to the UFC on ESPN 50 ‘Sandhagen vs. Font’ preview:

The Co-main and ME have my attention. Especially the Co-main.

Andrade has been fighting anybody at any weight and even late replacement fights. And I think it may help to explain her performance as of late. Along with my understanding that her ex stole a bunch of money from her. If that’s true it’s really a big betrayal that can mess with a person’s mind. What a shame as Andrade seems like a nice lady. She doesn’t talk shit and comes to fight. She is one of my favourite wmma fighters of all-time.

She beat Murphy at 125 by decision in January. Then 4 weeks later lost to Erin by sub in about 6:40 at 125. Then got KOd by Yan in 2:20 back down at SW about 2.5 months after the Erin fight. And she’s back 3 months later fighting Tatiana at SW.

I wonder how much training she is actually doing? I never really see much on SM posted in here. It seems like she just really needs the money right now. This is her 4th fight in about 6.5 months. That’s pretty crazy. And she’s almost certain to fight 5 times in 2023.

She’s been in the UFC for 10 years already. Since she was 21 yrs old and fighting at BW. She is still ranked 5th in both FLW, and SW. I’m sure her goal remains to be a UFC champion again.

But with two different weight classes. If she had stayed at SW after subbing Lemos. She probably could have avoided Yan. And been in a number 1 contender fight with Rodriguez, at the time possibly. But again.. She really seems to need the money.

So that brings us to Tatiana. Out over 3.5 years, and finally returned to sub Montana in under 8 minutes at FLW. A little over 5 months later she is back in the SW division fighting Andrade. These are two badass ladies idgaf what anybody says.

It appears that Tatiana is still healthy and full steam ahead. If she beats Andrade she jumps up to number 5 in the rankings probably. That’s 2 fights max from a TS. Can Tatiana remain undefeated?

Assuming she is 100% or as close as possible. And does not get injured in the fight. She should be able to beat Andrade, imo. Probably by sub, or convincing decision. So this fight does not really make sense for Andrade. High risk, with pretty much no reward.

So I wish them both the best. No controversy and may the better fighter win.

ME.. I don’t give Font a great chance to win this fight. But it is an mma fight, so you never know for sure.

Sandhagen handed Dillishaw the fight even if you think it was a bad decision. The way he kept trying flashy shit and ending up turned away from Dillishaw was bizarre to me. That’s not high fight IQ. But we live and learn.. hopefully.

And the judges scores in his fight with Vera are insane. A split with scores of 47-48, 50-45, and 49-46 is ludicrous.

Sandhagen isn’t looking to cherry pick, and just wants another crack at a title. This win should get him into a number 1 contender fight. Or possibly even into a vacant title fight.

Font is 36, and that is ancient at BW. And he never takes the next step and win the big fights. We’ve seen it with several different fighters.

I’m taking Sandhagen.

There are a cpl Canadians on the main card. Tucker is a slight underdog, and Boser is a slight favourite. I hope they both win but will probably only pick Boser to win. Speaking of ancient.. Tucker is 37 yrs old at FW. Seeing an age like that at a lower weight class can sway me to the other fighter. But Tucker can win. My pick on that fight won’t be official until Saturday morning.

There are a few good fights on the card. Guys I’ve been watching but just really inconsistent. They can’t really get a lot of traction in the rankings. But those can make for entertaining fights, nonetheless.

Just hoping for good fights.

Thanks for the thread @PurpleStorm

I bet anyone willing that Sandhagen will win.

The loser has to watch the Netflix Jake Paul documentary and post a detailed review in the mayberry.

Any takers?

Lol. I’m picking Sandhagen on my tap card but am not taking THAT big of a risk. Enjoy the fights.
