Pre-Adesanya Costa was a beast

He was so aggressive, had good combinations and good kicks, dude just marched people down while throwing 4 piece combinations.
Paulo was one of the only people to ever fight Romero with zero fear. Just non stop powering forward without regard to Yoels power and abilities.
This Paulo needs to return.

Costa lost something after the Izzy fight. He used to be the king of weaponizing pressure, doing all of his best work once he had his opponent cornered against the cage. He has fought so timidly since the Izzy loss, which just doesn’t work when your entire thing is walking forward and cage cutting.

I hope he's able to find that spark again.

He did. I can't remember if it was that fight but he seemed incoherent at the weigh ins... He started talking as if he expected to miss weight, then he made weight, then he started rambling about something else. Just seemed like his head was scrambled.

There are levels. Costa past average fighters with fancy wins but could not carry his performance to upper level.

Adesanya is not the reason , he is just one of the reasons.

Just rewatched. The first thing that jumped out at me:




Lots of trash talking and clowning in this fight. There was legit heat. Izzy murdered Paulo's lead leg and then smoked him.

If timestamp doesn't work, go to 6:28. Izzy points at Costa and says "Romero?" lol. I can't make out what is said after that. It's not clear to me if Izzy is the one talking, but it almost sounds like "You Madden". Feel free to speculate. Shit like this drives my crazy.

When Costa isn't busy being an alcoholic, he's a pretty good fighter for someone more concerned about how he looks on the beach than how he fights in the cage. Not great, but pretty good.

Honestly, didn't seem too bad here. Just said he wasn't being unprofessional, just that he couldn't read. Then made a joke about how making weight was proof that he couldn't read.
