PlayStation VR will be $399(€399/£349/$549 CAD) at launch

•Sales Projection
On the heels of Google’s unveiling of the Daydream View earlier today, research firm SuperData has rolled out its official sales forecast for PlayStation VR and its chief competitors, HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift included.

Despite launching late in the year, the company claims Sony’s new platform will outpace all other VR headsets, selling upwards of 2.6 million units in the space of two and a half months. A bullish projection though that may be, SuperData points to Sony’s PS4 install base to back up its report — simmering north of 40 million at press time — which would mean that around 6 percent of console owners will make the jump to PSVR before the year’s end. For perspective’s sake. the research giant has HTC Vive and Oculus at 420,108 and 355,088 units respectively across the same period.

•Cinematic Mode
One of the features included with PlayStation VR is Cinematic Mode, which lets you view the PlayStation 4 system UI and nearly all non-VR games and applications on a virtual screen while wearing the headset. The screen size varies from Small (117 inches) to Medium (163 inches) to Large (226 inches) and is placed virtually at 6 – 10 feet away, though the size of the screen may feel different depending on the person.

In their PlayStation VR FAQ, Sony explains that certain games like The Playroom and Tearaway Unfolded won’t work in Cinematic Mode because they use the PlayStation Camera:

Yes, PS4 games will work using Cinematic Mode, which is used to view the PS4 system interface and non-VR games and applications on a virtual screen. Non-VR games which use the PS Camera like the original non-VR PlayRoom and Tearaway Unfolded are not supported by PS VR Cinematic mode.

When playing non-VR games during Cinematic Mode, you’ll be able to use all of the Share features, as long as they’re supported by the game. Also, since the Processor Unit provides Cinematic Mode, you won’t notice any frame-rate or performance drops with PS4 games or apps.

Here’s what they said about Cinematic Mode’s resolution:

PS VR presents images from a single 1920 x 1080 display split between both eyes, so the content can have a maximum resolution of 960×1080 in stereoscopic 3D. The actual resolution of the Cinematic Mode screen depends on the screen size and the resolution of the content being displayed.

Sony adds that you can’t change the backgrounds in Cinematic Mode, and 3D content won’t be displayed. “In Cinematic Mode, PS VR will display 3D games and films in 2D when playing on a 3D-compatible TV,” they explained. “When playing with non 3D-compatible TVs or without a TV, PS4 won’t play 3D games and films.”

They didn’t have anything to announce today about possibly adding 3D support in Cinematic Mode in the future.

Looking at the planned support for non-gaming content, Sony said they’ll have VR storytelling experiences from Penrose Studios and others, with details TBA. In the coming weeks and months, VR experiences and media apps like Hulu (in the US only), Allumette (Penrose), Invasion! (Baobab), Kismet (PsyOp), Within, LittlStar, Vrideo, and The Martian (Fox) will be released.

Specifically asked if you can watch movies, YouTube videos, and other media through the PSVR headset, Sony said, “Yes, you can watch all your existing media in Cinematic Mode using PS VR. There will also be media applications designed to support PS VR.”

•Controller Support

Though Move controllers are said to enhance the experience, offering more flexible and realistic control schemes, you can rest assured All PSVR games support the DualShock 4.

•Demo Disc
In case you’re from the UK and are wondering why the PlayStation VR demo disc you’re getting only has eight games compared to the US version’s eighteen, then Sony has an explanation for it. When Digital Spy posed the question, they were given the following statement:

Due to several considerations specific to our region, for example, age rating and localisation requirements, there is a difference in content between the US and European VR demo discs. We continue to explore the possibility of making further demos available for free download from the Store.

Resident Evil 7’s virtual reality mode is exclusive to PSVR for 12 months. Since RE7 is scheduled for release on January 24, 2017, the VR mode will remain exclusive until January 2018

Batman: Arkham VR, meanwhile, launches with PSVR on October 13 and will remain exclusive until March 31, 2017 – or roughly six months from its initial release.
 
Got it, first was disappointing then got some sleep it got dark and the fucking thing is awesome.

Cant believe how much fun a simple stupid game of Danger Ball is.

Cant wait for GTSport, might actually buy a wheel and seat if its really got in Vr.

Really want a story driven cinematic fps now, now like mother fuckng NOWWWWWW

I spent way too long in the play room. Having never played any VR I have zero point of reference so I'm really happy with the experience thus far.

Batman, although stuck on rails is awesome!!!!!

Driveclub is blurry at a distance, ie corners.

Mecharena or whatever it's called gives me vertigo.

Got about 20 other games to try out.
 
One of the neatest features packed into PlayStation VR is the virtual reality headset’s ability to display 2D games in its Cinematic Mode. It’ll display games that don’t have VR support, like Destiny or Uncharted 4, on a gigantic movie theater screen. There is definitely a loss in fidelity, but the novelty is certainly cool. Even if you’re still ultimately stuck with your regular television once you take the headset off.

We’re now learning that Cinematic Mode isn’t only compatible with the PlayStation 4, though. In fact, it works as an HDMI display device and can display anything that is plugged into the Processor Unit. From a Blu-ray player to other gaming consoles, anything that uses an HDMI cord will display on the headset. Pretty cool, huh?

Here are just a few of the compatible devices:

So, if you don’t mind viewing games, movies, television, or whatever entertainment you want to partake in at a lower resolution, this is a pretty cool way to indulge.

Came out on Thursday (10/13). I pre-ordered and received it Thursday.

Here are my thoughts on it:

Pros
- Screen is surprisingly good, even at 1080p. I don't even notice any screen-door effect (graphics still have jaggies and appear "low res" compared to a 1080p monitor though)
- I did not notice any frame rate drops on the normal PS4
- controller and movement responsiveness is good
- don't need a clear area (like the Vive requires during setup) to play, I was sitting behind my coffee table
- PSVR games seem to be designed with this in mind (PRO in my opinion)
- headset is comfortable (even though it is heavier than other VR headsets)
- Lens are clear and don't give the "God Rays" effect like some other VR headsets
- Included earphones sound good
- Theater mode for non-VR games is nice

Cons
- PSVR does not do relative player centering. Meaning, where the camera is placed is absolute center. I was playing Drive Club VR and noticed that my position in the car was always crooked and slightly turned to the right. It was because I was not sitting directly in front of the PS camera. It probably explains the next con...
- You can't look backwards, it says you are out of the playing field if you turn around. (this is probably why the camera HAS to be the absoute center). the PS4 controller also loses tracking if you face it backwards
- If you don't know where your controllers are when you start you have to almost remove the headset to find them
- Hardware setup is somewhat messy, there is a seperate stand-alone processing unit and the additional HDMI and USB wires needed are a bit messy
- PSVR only leaves you with one USB port in the front, so charging multiple controllers is difficult if you don't have a charging stand. I had to charge my move controllers on my PS3.
- Where my couch sits is outside of the "range" for the camera to detect the VR unit (maybe 10 ft away from the tv?), I had to move the camera closer
- IPD can be adjusted, but it is buried in the VR menu settings
- My wife made fun of me while I was playing the demo of Rush of Blood


As for games, most of the launch games are OK, nothing that is truly a must-have atm. If you get VR sickness on other headsets, you will still get it on PSVR.

Rigs and Drive Club VR made me sick, Rush of Blood is fun and has a ton of jump scares but limited replay value.

Agreed on most parts except the turning around part. I have no problems turning my head around but you are bang on in terms of the controller because once that is out of the cameras line of sight, it loses connectivity.

Also Rigs made me a little dizzy, nothing too bad however.

The only issue I have is at times it can be quite blurry, I've adjusted the eye settings on the PS4, adjusted the actual headset itself but still have a little blur which can be a little annoying.
 
They told that PSVR wouldn't support porn but they were not right. Porn guys are trying hard to get their stuff working on it (NSFW)

Download our videos from a desktop PC and copy them to a USB device in a folder named VIDEO

Plug in to your PlayStation system

STEP 3
Open your Media player and Enjoy!!

*Currently, our videos are only playable in 2D mode through the PS4 Media Player is really frustating
 
got my PSVR today.. did the gamestop bundle of 500 bux.. batman VR, 2 used move controllers and a new camera (was supposed to be used camera but they had none, so they gave me a new one)

took over an hour to set up.. but the big instruction book is well laid out, it made sense

i bought and downloaded thumper first, cause i heard such good things.. so fun. i'll update w/more reactions as i play more games, taking a little break from it, hehe.
 
btw, if you're near sighted, PSvr is great. i couldn't find any answers to this myself so i went out of my way to demo it before buying it.. sure enough, even tho your eyes are very close to the screen inside the headset, without glasses, i was useless. i couldnt see shit. but it fits very nicely over my glasses & it's great wearing both at the same time.

and i highly recommend thumper to anyone. i've never been a rhythm game guy, but this rules. so gorgeous and sounds SO GOOD.

This is good to hear, when all this VR stuff started ramping up I thought I was fucked since my vision sucks. I hate contacts and won't put them in just to play some VR games.

haven't made it to a Best Buy yet to try one out, but glad to hear it's comfortable with glasses on.

it's not gonna replace AAA-level games for a while. but i don't regret dropping like $550 for a second (i bought a VR / charge stand for the move controllers, headset, etc.

if you can afford it, buy it. if it's gonna hurt, don't.. that's my advice to anyone. in other words, if you're on the fence and the pricepoint is managable: do it. could prolly ebay it for 2-300 easily if it isn't right for you, and it's worth it to know if you're thinking about it a lot

I've held back on those due to the small file size thinking they're tiny games. The Demo's (although absolutely tiny) were fantastic.

Not yet, for one reason: haven't had time to play them hehe. I got it Saturday morning, I've played thru 75% of thumper so far and played some dark souls 3 co-op with a buddy with the time ive had to game, aside from playing and showing the demos of those two to people :)

I'm Prolly gonna get rigs first.. gonna order that on Amazon today while the 20% prime discount remains active

Thanks for that.

Rigs is the only game that truly gave me a sense of depth, in terms of "whoa shit, I'm falling from a great height". First time I've had that feeling in a game so I might go ahead and buy it.
