Joss Whedon Says No to Rumored PLANET HULK Movie
Last month, it was rumored that The Avengers 2 would involve the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) being deemed too dangerous to live on Earth and he would get shipped into outer space. From there, Hulk would get a solo Phase 3 movie based off Greg Pak‘s comic book arc Planet Hulk. In the comic, Hulk becomes enslaved on the planet Sakaar, is forced to participate in gladiatorial games and eventually becomes a hero of the rebellion against the Red King. Then the rumor continued that The Avengers 3 would have Hulk and his subjects returning to Earth and wreaking havoc, which would be based on Pak’s World War Hulk storyline.
At some point, it’s difficult to tell how carefully Marvel Studios has mapped out their movies and at what point it’s just fanboy dreaming masquerading as a serious possibility for future films. Since Joss Whedon is one of the Marvel Movie Universe overseers now, IGN asked him about the Planet Hulk rumor. Whedon replied, “Well I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense.”

Latino Review Insists PLANET HULK/WORLD WAR HULK Will Happen
A few days ago, AICN reportedly debunked the rumors that Marvel is planning a Planet Hulk and World War Hulk adaptation for Phase 3. The site explained that actor Mark Ruffalo signed a 6-picture deal with the studio, which makes his appearance unlikely since Bruce Banner is not in the Planet Hulk storyline. Today, Latino Review is sticking to their guns that Planet Hulk will happen and gives an explanation:
"Where is the rule that says when a movie adapts a comic book it has to verbatim? Mark Ruffalo’s role in a Planet Hulk movie wouldn’t be reduced. There are huge chunks of that story where Hulk can revert back to Banner. Simple fix. Think dialogue scenes when he is not in the arena. Remember, The Avengers in the 3rd act set up that Banner now has control over his transformations. That is key.
Yes, Ruffalo signed a six picture deal but think about it fanboy nation, you really believe we are going to see Ruffalo in only two other Avengers sequels? Does that make sense? If Marvel only wanted him for just Avengers sequels, Ruffalo’s team at UTA would have negotiated for only three pictures. Like I said before, how many times are we going to see Hulk smash puny humans and be on the run from General Ross, ESPECIALLY now that he is part of the Avenger initiative? Audiences absolutely loved when Hulk smashed puny aliens last summer. Some food for thought."

Marvel's Planned PLANET HULK Movie Debunked?
A while ago, El Mayimbe from Latino Review posted a Marvel scoop that got everyone either really excited or really damn angry. The word was that a Planet Hulk solo movie was planned, leading into a World War Hulk type scenario with the Marvel Cinematic Universe equivalent of The Illuminati for Avengers 3. Latino Review has been on point more often that not with these type of scoops, so despite the events being predicted being a long way away, fans went along with it. But today, Mr. Beaks from AICN is debunking the hell out of the Planet Hulk story. His sources reckon this is "1,000% inaccurate".
"According to my source, this just isn't happening - not as long as Marvel's got Mark Ruffalo committed to a six-picture deal as Bruce Banner. And that's the primary issue with PLANET HULK: Banner isn't in it at all (unless you count the WHAT IF... story where Banner is immediately killed upon reaching Sakaar). To make sure, I went to a another source for confirmation, and they backed up every detail. PLANET HULK isn't happening."
Mr. Beaks says he couldn't get any details on what the plans ARE post Avengers 2, but that Ruffalo's Banner would be an "integral part of that film". This is hardly surprising given the overwhelmingly positive response from both fans and critics alike to his performance in The Avengers. At the end of the day, it's just one guy's sources over another, and both are pretty reliable. Plus, this stuff is years away, who knows what could happen?
