In just over a week, Platinum Perry will face off against a tough, durable, and experienced Ellenburger.
Though this thread is not about how PMP is the pure embodiment of courage for fighting a guy who has over 4 times as many fights, I would be remiss not to mention it.
What this thread is about is taking a step back and acknowledging and appreciating what is about to happen, and what Ellenburger is about to do.
Ellenburger has been around for quite some time, though he is far from washed up, and has shared the cage some of the very best.
Platinum Perry is relatively inexperienced (10 pro fights), yet he fights with the ferocity and skill and composure of a man with far more experience.
Perry has jumped in to the deep end of the competition pool, and he has even suffered a set back, but think this fight is going to not only show how he comes back from adversity after a loss, but he will show us all how he has grown as a professional and as a fighter.
For Ellenburger's part, the loss is necessary--animals and people often offer themselves over to greatness. The male mantis knows he is going to get his head eaten off as soon as he copulates, but he knows that the species requires it. Similarly, teh noble salmon fights with every ounce of its being to get upstream in order to reproduce, and once the eggs are fertilized, both the male and female fish die--they know they are going to die, but they know it is necessary. An evil necessity, but a necessity nevertheless.
As far as Ellenburger goes, I am not suggesting that he is throwing this fight, nor am I suggesting that he is being somehow altruistic when he loses. What I am saying is that I cant help but have a profound respect for Ellenburger's understanding and appreciation of his role in the history of mma and the platinum evolution and revolution.
The mantis knows the outcome and understands his fate, yet he does what is necessary.
The salmon knows that his demise is a virtual certainty, yet the natural order of things requires him to dutifully and courageously fulfill his destiny.
Just the same, Ellenburger, in his heart of hearts, knows that this fight will propel Perry, the Platinum Nation, and all the Platnimaniacs in to the stratosphere.
He doesnt know why he took the fight, but he knew that he had to take this fight. Call Ellenburger a cathode, a salmon, a mantis or anything else, but make sure you tip your hat when you do it.
Thanks Ellenburger for understanding necessity.
as soon as Ellenburger agreed to take this fight, he must have had some appreciation of the situation ,
