BoxingScene.com has learned that plans are in store for Williams (27-1-1, 16KOs) to make the first defense of his unified 154-pound crown on Jan. 18 at the Liacouras Center on Temple University grounds in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Neither an opponent nor platform has been solidified for the occasion, other than ruling out a previously targeted rematch with Jarrett ‘Swift’ Hurd.

Original plans called for a rematch between Williams and Hurd, which was targeted for Dec. 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The bout would have aired live in primetime on Fox, as did their fiery first fight in which Williams floored Hurd (23-1, 16KOs)— then an unbeaten and unified titlist in round two en route to a well-earned unanimous decision in their Fight of the Year-level war this past May in Fairfax, Virginia.

Efforts are also currently in place to secure a slot for local unbeaten 122-pound contender Stephen ‘Cool Boy Steph’ Fulton (17-0, 8KOs), whom has emerged as a top prospect and on the verge of title contention in 2020.

Erislandy Lara possible opponent.

Slow Lara gets owerwhelmed.

Williams says it won't be Hurd fwiw

Lara would be a good fight

Book it Al! Lara has become quite the exciting fighter in the twilight of his career.

Glad to hear. Thought he was just another Charlo opponent. Didn’t think we’d hear about him ever accomplishing anything. What an impressive comeback. Wonder why no Jarrett Hurd rematch though?

After saying yes to the rematch, Hurd declined saying he did not felt ready to rematch Julian right away.

Williams will be joined on the card by IBO super bantamweight titlist Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton, whose opponent may be Lorenzo Parra II, the No. 6 -ranked super bantamweight in the WBA and Fulton is No. 7.

Fulton (17-0, 8 KOs) is one of the more underrated fighters at 122. Cool Boy Steph last fought Isaac Avelar, winning by sixth-round TKO. Fulton beat the sixth undefeated fighter on his resume when he stopped Avelar (16-1, 10 KOs). The interesting twist is at the time of the stoppage, Fulton was down 48-47 on Luis Escalona and Hector Maldonado’s scorecards, while judge David Avalos had Fulton up 48-47.

The Philly duo teamed on the May 11th PBC card in Fairfax. Fulton, 25, dominated veteran Paulus Ambunda to win the IBO super bantamweight belt. Lorenzo Parra II (20-1, 15 KOs) is 24 years old from Venezuela and has won his last six fights.

When I first heard Hurd turned it down, I was disappointed, but honestly, it was the best move for him.

The action will also feature undefeated rising star Chris "Prime Time" Colbert taking on former champion Jezreel Corrales for the Interim WBA Super Featherweight Title as the co-main event of the broadcast that begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Isn't there a poster here who knows Colbert? Cool to see him get a big opportunity

Preceding the main card on FOX, FOX PBC Fight Night Prelims on FS1 and FOX Deportes begin at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT and feature a 10-round super welterweight attraction between Mexico's Jorge Cota (29-4, 26 KOs) and New Jersey's Thomas "Cornflake" LaManna (28-2-1, 10 KOs).
