News Patricio “Pitbull” Freire asks for PFLattor release

Bellator is a sunken boat. He is probably going to waste a year or two before being a free agent.
Still, Patricio is elite. He would be a tough test for anyone in the UFC, what a shame.

This Bellator/Pfl marriage has become a fiasco , if you can’t provide these guys with fights then grant them a release, anyone worth anything is going to be reluctant to sign there if this is how they choose to do business.

Idk that he should sign with the UFC, like he's talking. I don't think they'll necessarily pay him, as a 37 year old FW, I'm certain he'd be the oldest FW on the roster. He's also lost three fights since 2021, at three weights, to younger competition. Essentially every FW in the UFC is younger, I don't think this was the time to make the move. Should have been years ago.

There's probably no other choice. He is already in a crap situation with PFL/Bellator and ONE FC is no better. The only other option is Rizin but I'm not sure they hold enough events especially considering how long he has left in the fight game. UFC may be his best and only option.

I think at this point is not about the money. Patricio should have plenty by now.

It is to finish his career active and see him in the UFC. I would not expect him to make a run or anything. Just a couple fun fights like Chandler.

He said he would go to RIZIN, if they could pay him. Also said the UFC is the only org that can pay what he wants. I just don't think they'll pay big dollars for a 37 year old FW

Although, his management is in very good standing with the UFC, they may be able to haggle

It seems like it is time for the PFL to hold a fighter/fighters management summit meeting ASAP and lay out their vision of how they plan on keeping fighters busy for the next few years.

They need to probably hire some talent relations people to keep fighters updated as that seems like the number one issue is no one knows what is going on.

6th oldest by the looks of it. He's a competitor and he wants to see if he's still got it before he retires. If he gets the right matchup I think he could still pull off a win.

I'd take a Volk matchup, for sure. I've always thought that Patricio would have succeeded if he'd have ended up in the UFC a long time ago. I'm still skeptical they pay him, but they did MVP, and he's older. He's also still got his speed though

this is like when Nate would ask UFC for a release, it aint happening. They'll end up giving him a fight and that will be it. You want to leave you have to fight out that deal and probably lose that title which will devalue you to UFC. But look at Chandler, he lost and got to leave and has done well but at this point Pitbull is a few years past his prime but theres still fun fights. ortega, yair, allen, emmett, volk and topuria and at the top. Could chase chandler up to LW and all those fun fights, Max etc. Theres 25 great fights for him but how competitive would they be I dont know. Wish he would have jumped 3 years ago but he always seemed like a Bellator lifer. Still expect him to never leave Bellator/PFL.

PFL won't let him go needs his name value.

Pitbull is 38. He took too long to make a move, should have done that when he was 31-32. If he goes to the ufc, it’s gonna look like Chandler’s run.

I wonder who they give him and how many fights he has left. If he only has one left do they try and send him out on a loss with someone that could beat him like a Pico but risk devaluing the guy that's staying if he wins or do they just give him someone fairly routine to extract the last bit of value from him and get it over with?

Tbh the ex-Bellator guys who are there saying how shit PFL is are actively hurting the brand though so if I was them I'd be open to a one off deal where guys who want to leave can leave and guys who don't can commit. There's only limited amounts of fighters that UFC would be interested in anyway and the rest don't have a lot of options.

Pico took to Instagram to politely complain about having not fought in 11 months but saying there isn't much he can do about it due to being under contract and that he will control what he can. Really hope he fights soon or gets released, at 28 years old he is in his prime.

is his contract close to up, then you have champ clause fights, is he on the champ clause fights? Does he need to lose before he'd be able to get out of there. having one fight left for a non champ is alot different than one fight left being champ cause of the champ clause extension.

And then even if he did get out how eager is UFC to sign a 38 year old past his prime FW who was never a star to begin with? Maybe he's willing to take a big pay cut just to get a few UFC fights in before the end but who knows.

Realistically him getting knocked out by Pico and then wanting to be let go is probably the only way he leaves because at that point at his age he's not part of the future of PFL so they could dump him but with that belt theres no way they are gonna let him walk. Then question is like Nemkov who gave up the belt, can Pitbull give it up and get free quicker?
