Love this fight, HBO were grooming Ledwaba to smash Pac and become a star.

Quite the opposite happened, we saw the emergence of a real star.

Ya these things are bringing me back. First fight in the US and to take the fight on 2 weeks notice and whoop him. Pretty badass

In before someone calls me obsessed and making fun of Pac:icon_chee

This has special place in my heart because it is one of the many times I remember watching boxing with my dad , even with both of us being fillipino we hadn't heard much from Pacquiao and I remember seeing Ledwaba fight earlier in that year in a good fight so I didn't think much this fight but then Pacquiao started to land and land hard and was just this heavy handed wild man in there.

Interesting.
I didn't see this fight and don't remember much of it.

Lebwada was the guy HBO was interested in with this fight?

Not being a dick when I say this but did you read the facts?

It said along the lines that he was at the time, considered a red hot champion and pound-for-pound prospect.

Yeah good times, in hindsight he was pretty funny, he was a calm guy never yelled never needed to I hardly saw him angry but if there was good boxing match on he go real excited "Kill him !!!!!".

I miss that guy alot :icon_sad:

I didn't see this live. Was it a big event for Filipinos?

I remember my Dad just coming back from visiting the Philippines and wanting to watch the fight, Pacquiao had a following in the PI but not so much in the US.

I found this old article published before the fight:

Pacquiao, 22, said he doesn

Sorry about that...
I just looked at the pictures and then read the other comments.

Pacquiao's true coming out party was the first Barrera fight IMO. But I really feel he turned heads with the destruction of Jorge Julio on the Tyson/Lewis undercard. I've never seen a junior featherweight hit so hard. The sounds of him hitting Julio are brutal.

I have to agree with you that's the fight to said to me that he was more than just an alphabet belt holder he is a real champion level guy.
