Spock and Kramer are such icons. Spock was the biggest (if not first) "voice of the other;" an alien that gave his perspective on human behavior, values and tendencies. Kramer was the wackiest of the "wacky neighbor" archetypes.

Al Bundy was the antithesis of Walt Cleaver and Mike Brady: broke, disgruntled, and unencouraging, but still persevering.

Starscream was a neat character for a kids' show/commercial. He was Iago, plotting to undermine his villainous boss while fighting the good guys at the same time.

Kevin Arnold is probably the big one here, though. Those that weren't around back then maybe don't recognize the cultural juggernaut that The Wonder Years was. The growth of a (pre/)teenage Everyman, relatable to kids of the same age and their parents who lived through the era depicted in the show.
