hey guys, was just wondering if there was a japanese name for those two. the ju jitsu i take is not really traditional and not really brazillian.. a hybrid of the two i suppose. we use the japanese terminology but when rolling pretty much anything goes (within reason). so i was wondering if the omoplata and gogoplata had come purely from the brazillians, or if there was another name i could use for the holds.

was just able to find with search, sorry for the spam post

Sorry for the necropost. Omoplata in Japanese is called ashi sankaku garami.
Gogoplata is called kakato jime.

This thread is from nine years ago. Why did you bother with this? Do you think the thread starter or anyone else still cares?

Since the omoplata is a bent armlock done using the legs i would assume that it is most likely a variation of ashi garami.

I have always wondered about those names. Omoplata, Monoplata, Locoplata. WTF does Plata mean and WTF does Omo, Mono mean? I am pretty sure Loco is just Eddie Bravo playing on his Mexican heritage by naming it "Crazy" plata.
