I've never been a fan of RPGs with the exception of these 2 games.

But for me Oblivion takes the cake. I found the world to be a lot more immersive, the quests were much more entertaining and the world looked beautiful.

Nothing in Skyrim can compare to the Imperial city. Such an impressive city. You also had the arena.

Not to mention the Thieves Guild which was a ton of fun..

Skyrim is a lot of fun as well, but feels more cold and not as immersive imo. And crossing paths with dragons annoyed the hell out of me. There's a lot of good things about both games but I have to go with Oblivion hands down.

I probably spent a few hundreds hours in Oblivion. Skyrim on the other hand, around 45 hours.

Just bought Oblivion so I can play it again. It's been so long. The graphics definitely look dated but not too bad.

So which one of these 2 games to you think is the best, gaming Sherbros?

I never played Skyrim. I played Oblivion and I love it.

Oblivion

It just had "it" some weird charm

Skyrim felt boring to me even if it is a good game

In retrospect... Skyrim. The graphics in Oblivion are brutal compared to Skyrim. The story in Oblivion was not all that much better imo.

Oblivion by a long shot..

The main quest with the oblivion gates etc can be a bit repetitive and mostly in my playthroughs I never complete it, but the side quests are where the game truly shines..

Dark brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, the arena and all the various quests scattered throughout the world..
Just fucking superb.

Combine that with probably the best DLC of all time, in the form of the Shivering Isles (which is entirely unique and bizarre compared to the main chunk of the game), Oblivion is just simply a masterpiece..

And don't get me wrong, I love Skyrim, it's just that I feel at the expense of trying to cater to a more mainstream audience, Bethesda lost the classic RPG feel of Oblivion..

I didn't think Oblivion was that good at all. Awful, broken levelling that made combat a chore. Random gen dungeons (And Oblivion Gates) where it was play one you've played them all. No story/dialogue worth mentioning (Same for Skyrim tbf) and the characters looked like shit. Skyrim wins just on superior levelling and dungeon design. If I had to say one thing Oblivion did better it was the Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood questlines but can't really think of anything else

Couldn't agree more about the side quests.

And yea, they tried to reach a more mainstream audience with Skyrim.

I'm not a big RPG fan as mentionned in the OP and don't like the overly complicated stuff but once I got to learn how the classes/attributes worked in Oblivion and used it to my advantage it was so much fun.

They got rid of a lot of that stuff in Skyrim. You also had a birth sign you could choose in Oblivion which gave you a unique ability.

Oh and I gotta try that DLC.

Which type of character is your go to?

Dark elve, bow/blade combo, light armour..
I try to level the acrobatic and speed skill as much I can.. it's completely broken.
Fucking hilarious watching your character literally jump 25 feet into the air and be able to move at insane speeds.

They were released 5 years apart so it's normal that Oblivion looks more dated in terms of graphics.

Played both games shortly after they came out and basing my opinion on that. But it definitely might be different going into them for the first time now.

I wish they would remaster Oblivion though. They did it for Skyrim a couple years ago and didn't really need to.

Dude. That was my exact set-up.

Dark Elf with light armour. Bow and arrow as main weapon but decent blade as well. And good sneaking skills in order to surprise enemies or steal lol

With a high enough sneak skill, you could basically one shot everything with one arrow..

I'd love it if they remastered Oblivion, I'd play through it again.

I guess my bias comes from the fact I played Skyrim first.

Skyrim is one of my favorite games of all time. Ive tried to play Oblivion so many times and it has its charms but overall I find it to be kind of shit.

Fair enough. There might be some nostalgia bias on my part as well :p

Did you play Skyrim first too?

I imagine it would be kind of hard to enjoy an old version of the game, especially graphics wise after playing the most recent one.

No I played Oblivion close to the time it came out. I think it has a lot going for it and I really wish I could have had more fun with it but so much of it feels broken

I like them both equally, but I'll give Skyrim the nod for not turning me into a vampire against my will, and forcing me into a long tedious fetch quest, to not have to feed on unsuspecting people, so I don't get hurt by the sun.
