I took off early from work so I can check out Sambosteve's gym. Since I have no time to train with work( accually multiple jobs), I figured I would stop by to see Sambosteve's place since I promised I would.

First thing I have to let everyone one know is DO NOT PARK in front of the gym on 39 st between 5th and 6th ave. if your car is there after 10PM your car will be towed, trust me I know first hand!!!

The gym is really spacious good mat space. Sambosteve was really receptive. I told him who I was and he gave me VIP treatment because I was from sherdog!!! The class I saw was there basic beginner class, but it looked nothing like a beginner class because there was tons of rolling and some really sweet throws. It has a good mix of warn-up, technique and then rolling ( which I think is most imprtant)

Thing I like most was Sambosteve willingness to roll with all his students. I saw some guys there that were from other local BJJ schools in the city taking classs with Sambosteve.

It was nice to meet sambosteve and it was a good night until we walked out and saw my car was towed!!! Luckily for me Sambosteve knew where the impound was an drove me there right away. Like I said VIP treatment for sherdog friends!!!!

Sambosteve is my hero!!! Sucks I have to work more than one job, because I do not even have the time anymore to think about training, but I was happy to have met my sherdog buddy!!!

ah parking and driving in New York is a bitch. that was the only thing that I hated when i went to the Open New York Sambo tournament.

Anything related to driving in NYC sucks!!! From parking to traffic and everything else. I am really missing South Florida!!! LOL

From what I've seen of sambosteve here on the forums, he's always been a gentleman and willing to give good advice/information.

What are the rates at his school?

Thanks for the great review! My bribes worked! I actually had your car towed so I could drive you to the impound...makes a good impression...LOL. Seriously though, parking sucks on that block...I got mine towed the first week we were there. One block over is all good though.

Seriously...that was not a beginner class. Some were relative beginners, but some were not. The class before that one was a beginner class though.

As for my rolling with the students, I try to roll with everyone when I can, but my knees are shot and I can't do it as often as I like (you saw my terminator knee braces...LOL). I am on Dr's orders to stay off the mat for like 6 months due to a torn LCL. But, sometimes the temptation is too great :) After our league match this weekend, it is back on the bench for me for a while...at least till May when I go to Russia for a few weeks.

Glad you were able to come by! Hope to see you soon.

Steve

Our rates range from $100 a month to $150 a month...depending on how many classes a week you take. $150 is unlimited classes. 3 month minimum membership.

I hear you. I really miss the easy driving and parking lol. My only parking problem in Florida was trying to get a closer spot in the Publix parking lot lol. Plus the sunshine all year round is not bad too.

nice review and yes parking can be a major pita, always look for the signs

Awesome site. I like BJJ and I like judo, but if I could choose any style, it would probably be sambo, just because it seems to work a more balanced proportion of throws to groundwork.
