man i got my shit busted open today and i was leaking everywhere like a faucet. im a easy bleeder and i gush. is there a way i can work on my nose ( please dont say avoid getting hit)
i didnt put on any vaseline today i wonder if that had anything to do with it. but what can i do to toughen up my nose?

itll either toughen up over time or you can have it cauterized if its a big problem. My nose is the same way. it started after i got a cracked nose in sparring. now it bleeds when Im under strain or my blood pressure gets high, ive never had it cauterized but i would if it were convenient for me. its minor and common though, in ammie fights lots of fighters get bloody noses, by the time they turn pro, if they get that far, they usually have toughened up to it.

times are different too, people are paranoid of blood, ever since hiv, so blood will make people repell.

my boxing gym ring is always full of blood.

thats the way it used to be, the mma guys would panic but then, ike ive said many times the demographics were different. People with something to lose live in fear, people that have nothing to lose dont. but even in boxing you see the gloves and so forth people use and hiv will end a boxers career, even with 0 proof that it could be transmitted via cut. I would think hepatitus would be a much bigger risk.

only way vaseline helps with blood is making the gloves slip off the skin easier, but not having nose bleeds is going to be tough, always has been, its just right there in the middle of your face. how pro fighters take it without getting a broken nose in each and every fight is amazing. some fighters are fortunate to have small noses, ali had a small nose, then you have guys like tommy hearns or going back further, lots of the italian guys with huge honkers which always ended up bent all up. I can always tell a former boxer when i see them, usually by their nose but often times by scar tissue around the eyes too. Mills lane was a fighter turned ref, he had no cartilage in his nose after boxing, he only had about 15 pro fights, its a sport hard on the face unless your just gifted like ali was, with rounded features, tough skin and a small nose. If it bothers you that much just get it cauterized, its what id have done, may still do. I dont like getting a bloody nose at the most awkward moments, it looks bad.

what does the procedure do? And what does it consist of? How old are you n how long uve been having this problem n does it effect ur sparring?

How often do you bleed now and when was the last time

Im 44, i dont spar anymore, but if I did, any half assed shot would start a bleed. my nose might bleed anytime, every few weeks on average. Its no big deal, but like i said it looks bad to people especially everyday people who dont see blood everyday. If im working i usually just stuff a moist tissue up my nostril and keep going. as far as cauterizing, im not sure what it does but its a common procedure, I guess they must just do something, maybe kill the small blood vessels causing the problem. Ive heard different stories from different people, some say it hurts like hell, others say it wasnt that bad. dont know how long youve been boxing but its as common as sweat in the gym for the most part. even a broken nose isnt a big deal, just part of the game, cuts can get serious because they can reopen and end careers, but a bloody nose is about the least serious of all of them. If you go to any ammie fights youll see every other fight with guys bleeding.

Try coating the inside of your nose with vaseline. Essentially, you have dry nostrils and the skin inside your nose is splitting on contact. The vaseline will moisten the skin and make it less susceptible to splitting.

Apply a thin coating throughout each nostril as deeply as you can. :) Do this in the change room.... So after application you'll notice additional moisture as your body is reacting to the foreign substance.

It will feel as though you have a light running nose, but I'm sure it will reduce your nose bleeds while sparring as it did for me.

All that said, if you don't want your nose to bleed EVER, then take this advice too...

Don't get hit.

first I heard that one, I believe it though. but from my research my problem is because of weak vessels which came from taking shots to the nose, I've had it broken too. so from what I've read, the vessels are so weak that they break open easier, so if my blood pressure goes up, or I do a lot of straining and lifting it'll start dripping. Usually preceded by a little tingle in my nose, like an itch, i'll rub my nose and then it's like a faucet, it's just distracting more than anything. Like I've said out of all the possible injuries in boxing it's one of the least dangerous, from a vanity perspective it's not good to have a pug or crooked nose.

well, i stopped doing anything with anyone in my old mma gym because they plain didnt have their shit together, really lazy, really disorganized and if you entered the doors with over ten years training, as I did, they still stick you in a class and waste your time. almost every fighter leaves that gym pissed off at them, but its not just that gym, its been like that wherever Ive gone and I realize its like that for a lot of fighters, so give credit to those who put up with all the little games they play and still come out on top, for me, fighting has always been fucking easy, the other stuff would make me physically sick.

last i sparred was about 8 years ago, i just got too old to be screwing around, I sparred Maurice smith. as far as stuffy nose, maybe use vicks or something to open up your nasal passages, ive heard of heavier stuff like nasal decongestants put right into your nose would show up in drug tests or something, dont know if thats true but those work pretty good. I never had that problem though. getting your nose broken certainly doesnt help your breathing though. I heard that dwight qawi retired once (later came back) because of a deviated septum, which is a fucked up nose, i dont think its that serious though. Of course the only reason you dont want to breath out of your mouth is that itll be easier to get a broken jaw.
