A new bill proposing term limits for Supreme Court justices is drawing attention after Representative Mike Levin announced his support.
According to Levin, the measure would preserve judicial independence by allowing justices to continue serving as senior judges after their terms, a structure already used elsewhere in the federal judiciary.
Levin also argued that the approach reflects broader practice, stating, “Nearly every state uses some form of term limits or reappointment for their highest courts.”
He contended that lifetime appointments grant “extraordinary power for far too long,” while term limits would “modernize” the Court without politicizing it.
