What's up everybody,
I need a little help in choosing a size for the Fuji Gi's. I'm looking to get one of the single weaves and one of the lightweight's/pearl weaves, both in blue. I'm 5'9" tall and 170lbs, athletic build. I'm planning to order them from JJPG, which has the pearl in-stock in all sizes and the single in A3 or A4. So for the single, I'll be getting the A3 and shrinking to fit. So I need a little help with the lightweight.

Their size chart is:
A2/140-170lbs./5'5" - 5'9"
A3/170-190lbs./5'9" - 6'0"

I have been reading through older posts/threads here that say the single can shrink down a lot, and some mixed reviews on the lightweight. Some say it shrinks some say it really does'nt. Being that I'm on the high end of the A2 and bottom of the A3, I'm not sure which to get in the lightweight, since whether these shrink or not is kind of unclear. I would'nt want to get the A3 and have it not shrink to fit, but at the same time would'nt want to get the A2 that may fit out of the bag and then shrink after washed. Would I be able to get the A3 lightweight to shrink down enough for my size/build? With either size choice, i'm looking to get an IBJJF legal fit out of both gi's.

If anyone has experience with these two gi's and can add some insight that would be great! Also, if anyone know's for sure if these are IBJJF legal, as far as collar width/thickness, materials, etc.

Thanks a lot!

I agree that you should go with an A3. Most people at my academy wear the regular Fuji gi. My friend, who is @120lbs, wears the A2 (but would also fit the A1.)

I had the regular gi, and it did not shrink much at all...and I was trying! I was washing it in hot water and drying it on high. Another one of my friend had his shrink a couple inches in the arms. I have the lightweight Fuji now. It has not shrunk at all, but I am hang drying it.

Just a heads up on my opinion of the summer weight version- It feels like sandpaper in comparison to the regular one.

Both models you would be an A3.

These are great gis ! Fuji has been around making gis over 20 years.

Thanks to you both for the replies!
So A3 for the lightweight? Hopefully it fits pretty closely, since you said your's did'nt shrink, JRal. I know you said you're hang drying, but I remember reading a post in here where someone said theirs did'nt shrink either, with drying. So I guess both of the weaves seem to be inconsistent, as far as shrinking vs. not shrinking? :) I could have the pants hemmed though, just mainly worried about the tops.

Do you guys happen to know if the pants from both models are the same pants, or if there are differences between them? I could'nt find any specs on them.

Thanks!

My lightweight has not shrunk with hang drying...and my regular didn't shrink with washing & drying on high heat. As I lose more weight, I am sure I will try shrinking the lightweight.

I do know that the pants of the two models are different because I had emailed Fuji about it. (I wear a size bigger on bottom than top, so I had to order extra pants.) However, I am not sure what the differences are other than the lightweight has the embroidered Fuji logo on the back of the pant leg...LOL!

I just got a lightweight Fuji and it doesn't shrink like my other, regular Fuji gi. :(

I just ordered a single weave a3 in black from cageside. I'm 5'9 about 160-165. Didn't want to chance the a2 shrinking to much as most reviews say they shrink a fair bit and I'm already at the large side of the a2's sizing as is.

Hopefully I can get the A3 to shrink down to a size I like.

Not sure about the different Fuji models, but I just got the Fuji Victory one (single weave) and it's very nice. I'm 5'9" and around 180lbs and I shrunk down an A3 by washing in hot and drying on high heat for hours, a couple times. Now it fits pretty well.

Only issue, after a lot of rolling, it does slightly stretch out. I think I could have went with an A2 and just hang dried it and it would fit great.

Damn, really confused on which size to go with now. :) Maybe safer to go with a totally different gi/brand.

Were the same height and you only have about 5-10 pounds on me depending on how I weight in. Just order this gi a day ago after sending out emails to a few websites, including fuji. All replys advised me to go with the A3 as the A2 will be to small after it shrinks from wash/dry.

I was told by fuji that it will shrink about 1-2 inches. However seems Fuji's gi's are currently stock in customs and will be back ordered about a week or two as I ordered 2 different fuji gi's from 2 different websites and both are currently back ordered.

If you don't mind the wait or or find somewhere that has it in stock based on the advice given to me you should go with the A3 as well.

I grabbed mine from cagesidemma, with their 20% off code mar20. Said it should be in stock and ship around the middle of next week.

5'10 and 185, just bough the Fuji Victory in A4 and its huge on me. It got a little better after I washed in and dried it on high but its still really big. Will it continue to shrink if I keep repeating this process or should I just bite the bullet and buy and A3?

A3 bro.

I'm 5'9" (maybe even 5'9.5" on a good day) and range from 175-185, with a decently broad shoulders and thick quads, and with the A3 shrunk down (I always high heat dry it after every wash) fits pretty decently but I definitely have room for easily another inch in height and probably 10lbs of weight.

I just tried on a new A2 Fuji single weave today wondering if I went wrong with getting an A3 and out of the bag the A2 fit WONDERFULLY, albeit on the slightly slimmer/tighter side, which I like. I'm positive the A2 wouldn't fit as nice even after a cold wash and hang dry, so it's not worth the risk to me to have an overly short and tight gi. Although, some people prefer that style for training, so an A2 wouldn't be a total loss.

I like this gi so much, I bought another white and black one in the last couple days.
