Like, smart humour? No thanks. Keep the hoidy toidy elitist crap to like, chick flicks or dramas or something. Not a fan of Bill Maher, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Steven Colbert, John Stewart . . . Can't even think of the rest of the elitist bull-crap. Give me self-efacing, dumb, goofy, nerdy humour any day of the week.

I LOVE just about anything with Will Ferrell - movies of his like: A Night At The Roxbury, Old School, Elf, Starsky and Hutch, Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, Semi-Pro, Step Brothers, The Other Guys, The Campaign . . . Anchorman had a few good parts too.

I LOVE just about anything with Ben Stiller (well, recently he's strayed a bit), like: There's Something About Mary, Mystery Men, Meet The Parents, Zoolander, Dodgeball, Starsky and Hutch, Along Came Polly, Tropic Thunder, The Watch.

Jim Carrey's older stuff was priceless: Ace Ventura (1), The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura (2), Liar Liar, Me Myself and Irene, Fun With Dick and Jane, Yes Man.

Those are my 3 Favorites. I like some of Adam Sandler's and Mike Myers' though both have fewer gems than the others.

My favorite comedian is Jim Gaffigan and my favorite late-night show is Conan.

Anyway, long story short, is I like the goofy crap. All the elitists can keep their self-adulating, too-cool-for-school garbage.

Anyone else like the nerdy, goofy, doesn't-take-itself s

I don't have a favorite kind.

Yeah man, big Jim Carey fan. Eternal Sunshine For The Spotless Mind is one of my all time favorites

That's the kind of movie you're talking about, right?

From this I take it you might enjoy the IT crowd

Can't believe Revenge Of The Nerds hasn't been mentioned yet.

Probably my least favourite kind.
The big bang theory makes me rage, the metro guy on Pranked makes me rage, Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell are fucking annoying too.

As someone who's somewhat of a comedy nerd, some of your rant is a bit confusing. Queen Latifah and Ice Cube are elitist bull-crap!?! Steven Colbert too!? Then you say you like nerdy humour but not "smart" humour?

Meh, re-reading the rest of your post, I see more and more what you mean. I love anything that makes me laugh, and though I found a lot of the movies you posted to have boring and predictable humour, I really liked quite a few of them (though some might not hold up over time). I like a lot of Stiller's stuff (Zoolander in particular), Ferrell was great on SNL (and I was really pleasantly surprised by The Other Guys), and Old School, Ace Ventura, and There's Something about Mary all made me nearly piss myself when I saw them in the theater.

What are some examples of "self-adulating, too-cool-for-school garbage", aside from Maher, Colbert, and Stewart (which all have a strong political angle, which might be more what irks you than the actual comedy itself)? There's so much good stuff out there that might qualify as that: Arrested Development, Peep Show, Community, 30 Rock, the movies of Christopher Guest, etc. Not sure if that's what you mean, but if it is, them's fightin' words.

Also, though it seems to be strangely polarizing, I think you might like MacGruber. Funniest movie I've seen in a while. It is very goofy but also "smart", as far as I'm concerned, because its humour isn't predictable nor hack-y, which I find to often be the case with comedy movies.

Why is this word all over the place?

I agree, but I draw the line just short of Three Stooges slap stick humor.

Ben Stiller is horrible.

Will Ferrell is my favorite too, I love almost all his stuff.
Mitch Hedberg as well, he was a genius.

I also like more cynical comedy, like Bill Hicks and movies like Mystery Team.

Will Ferell is funny as hell. I dont care for political satyrists. I like dark comedy too. My top 3 movie sthat made me laugh the hardest:

Theres Something About Mary
Step Brothers
40 year old Virgin

Its funny you claim you don't like comedy elitists yet you essentially deem any genre you're not fond of as garbage.

You like nerdy stuff but don't like smart stuff?

I don't think it means what you think it means.

Low-brow is most likely the best term for what you are describing.
