Sorry but gotta say, I get the warrior aspect of it, but by refusing to tap you are putting the other fighter in a terrible situation as well.

No one wants to break your limbs, there are situations where you clearly got caught in a submission and should tap out, why be stubborn and force the other fighter to break your limbs?

It's a misplaced sense of honor. It is not honorable to refuse to tap if the other fighter has you dead to rights in a submission, forcing the other fighter to literally break your limbs is wrong.

It’s a dumb thing to do when at practice/training or an amateur level tournament/fight. But at the highest professional level you have to do everything legal to win. I can’t fault Mokaev for not tapping. His opponent should have snapped his shit

It's not smart but you can't deny this kid has serious heart.

I don't know if I would call it heart if you just flat out always refuse to tap. Sometimes it takes heart to admit defeat as well.

There is heart in recognizing you have lost when you have indeed lost. His refusal to tap that knee bar was a mixture of a misplaced sense of pride and just blind faith that his knee wouldn't snap in half.

100% agree. I remember a WMMA fight not too long ago where the women had previously lost a fight after giving up a knee bar before the ref stepped in. So as soon as she got the knee bar in this fight, instead of apply gradual pressure to give her opponent time to tap not wanting to cause serious injuiry, she immediately applied full force brutally, destroying her opponents leg and gave no shits about doing it.

Not tapping to a knee bar doesn't make you a tough fighter, it likely makes you an injured, ex-fighter with problems the rest of your life.

I don't agree with his choice, but it was an admirable act. He was ready to risk his career in the name of pride and honor.

Nah, his corner should have thrown in the towel after his knee hyper-extended like that. His coach should also chew him out for being an idiot and not tapping when he could hear his knee tear.

There is pride and honor in recognizing you lost without forcing your opponent to pull the trigger.

Always refuse to give up. Refuse to tap, if you feel guilty for breaking my bones that's on you.
