Hey guys,

I use a pair of Top King MT shin guards - the kind with the two velcro loop and straps. I don't know if its because I have really pointy knees, or like resessed shin bones... but They are constantly sliding from inside to out on my legs.

This is an issue because I during sparring sessions I'm always having to adjust them, or risk having my shits get exposed either fully or by the thinner padding section.

I was thinking of picking up a cloth pair but I throw a lot of kicks and I'm worried about the lack of padding.

Just keep adjusting them I just busted open both my shins wearing the cloth ones haha.

Yeah this happens to me too sometimes when I use someone else's equipment, I've got long thin legs. I've had some success using a pair of hand wraps and just wrapping them in place. It's odd, yeah, but I mean it's better than having it slide off to the side in the middle of a kick, and meeting with bare shin

I've got to adjust my shin guards fairly often too. I think most people do. It sucks most when it happens in sparring because you don't want to stop and adjust it and ruin the flow. Just gotta work through it.

Are your shinguards the right size? Are you strapping them tightly enough?
Stupid questions, I know, but those are usually the top two culprits for loosey-goosey shinguards haha.

I mean - I ordered the suggested size after measuring my shins. What people say is the "correct" fit seems to vary wildly. I've seen top level guys wearing guards that cover well above their knee cap, and I've seen top level guys wearing ones that barely come up to the bottom of their knee. Mine are somewhere in the middle so I don't think its fit.

I feel like I strap them pretty tight, next session I'll really ratchet them down and see if it makes much of a difference.

I think part of the issue could be sweat + the fact that I have really hair legs. I sweat rather profusely and it makes things slippery.

I know everyone adjusts their guards to some degree but I seem to have to do it more than most. Ah well. :icon_sad:

Shin guards with d-rings on the strap greatly alleviate this problem.

killed myself laughing at the gym the other day, both my buddies were complaining about how their shinguard's suddenly stopped fitting properly..turns out they accidentally took home each other's top kings the other day..

If they are new it could take a few good sessions for them to form to your legs. They'll fit better and be easier to tighten after that.
Kinda sounds like you just aren't strapping them on tight enough.

King shin guards heavier and bulky than twins, fairtex, nikko etc but realy has a good protection

I haven't trained since Wednesday of last week unfortunately - but Monday night is a long class with lots of drilling, so I'm going to ratchet these things down tight as fuck and see if it makes a difference.

I have those and they never slide during sparring. My only complaint with these guards is that sometimes our coach has us kneeing the punching bag in between rounds. The placement of the knee guard made me knee at a weird angle and cause my knees to be scraped up pretty bad. Now i take them off or ask my muay thai coach if i can kick the bag instead of kneeing it.

So sinching them down super tight does help. I can't say its the most comfortable thing in the world but it stops them from moving around like crazy. I still feel like the tend to bow out and leave the inside of your shins only covered by the thinner padding. Maybe I just have some funky legs.

I'll try another brand or size next time and see if it helps.

Thanks again for the advice.

I have skinnny legs and use fairtex sp5 's.
They aren't as protective as top kings but wrap around the side of my legs and Never move.

Try putting an ankle guard over your shin then the shin guard.

Try putting anything underneath that will provide friction to prevent the shin guards from moving. I'm thin myself so have to strap everything extra tight even on smaller sizes. Wrapping my legs with athletic tape where the guards strap on helps to alleviate the problem.

never heard of so many people having issues with shin guards....
