I went to Phuket a few years ago and i fell in love with the place, and now im into muay thai, am looking forward to going back there and training in my gap year. I've looked into a bunch of gyms and so far the ones that stand out are Tiger muay thai and Sinbi muay thai.

Do you guys know what the best camps in phuket are? Are these two camps very good? For me the perfect camp would be not to far from Patong (yes im a bit of a tourist) and not too hidden away from society. Also i would like a to go to a camp that will push me and work me very hard. Any advice on this subject is appreciated.
Thanks

P.S Im planning on staying for three months.

Everyone will most likely have a different answer as to which is best, though I doubt anyone will nominate Rawai.

There are a ton down here: Sinbi, Dragon, S. Prapa, Suwit, Tiger, etc.

i am going to Sinbi next year. TMT seems very tourist-like.. TMT was my original choice, but changed my mind.

Sinbi is about 20 minutes away from Bangla Rd in Patong. Easy ride on a motorbike. Becareful at night, lots of drunk drivers and bandits.

There is a small nightclub called Icon right around the corner from the gym that fills up nicely after 2am when the bargirls get off :)

I don't go there often, I like the smaller bars much better.

Icon is a really nice bar compared the other smaller establishments in southern Phuket. I met an American expat that told me to stay away from there for some reason. I'm not one for taking advice like that so I went to check it out. I had a damn good night to say the least.

Yeah, Icon is alright.

I am much more at home at a little shit hole bar with 2 or 3 bargirls and a bottle of Sang Som. If I'm lucky I can get one of the girls to do that "twist a hair in my ear" torture.

I've never had any trouble at Icon, save for one dude from Tiger who got up in my face for about thirty seconds due to something the girl I was with dude. But then he did an about face and ended up buying me a beer, so I can't complain.

I also forgot the new Lion muay Thai and the Nai Harn boxing club: two newer gyms that I don't know much about.

if things go as planned, i'll be at sinbi from mid may to mid june

I've just come back from 10 days at Promthep (in Rawai). Decent place - I'll post a full review tomorrow.

Id give my recommedation to Patong Boxing. Great set of people there, from the trainers to the cooking staff. Nice location, clean gym, really good rooms for the price. It's not far from bangala, but far enough that if your not into that scene you can stay away from it. Training is up to you though, if you're seen as a slacker youll get treated like one...but i think that's the same for any gym in thailand. You get a random mix of people that are good and that are begginers, but it's easy to make friends with anyone.

If I ever go to Thailand to train Patong Boxing gym would be my number 1 choice as well, Based on fightpassport (go to his website btw just google fightpassport), He did a blog thats into its 3rd year now I think and it has alot of information about all the gyms he checked out.
Patong Boxing was his favourite, Im sure it has a nice running location for the morning, Not too far from a beach and not too many farangs there so its not a tourist trap.

I wouldn't no because I havent actually been but alot of guys here shit on TMT, I don' know if its because its the most popular so they are doing that thing where you ignore that one to seem somewhat of an expert or if its generally is bad. Someone from my gym has trained there but he isnt the best fighter in the world.

Naiharn Boxing Gym:

90/6 Nai Harn Beach Road, Moo 1, Rawai, Phuket 83110, Thailand. T: +66(0)85-787-7435. E: [email protected] . W: Naiharn Boxing Club.

This seems very interesting:

limited student enrollment.

western boxing in the morning & Muay in afternoon

judo.

And near Nai Harn beach!:icon_chee
