It seems like every generation of music there's a few bands/artists that shockingly stood out amongst the thousands trying to get signed to a major label.

'The Killers' were one of those acts... With a one-hit wonder with a monotone singer whining about being cheated on.

The best thing that came from this song is this cover/remix. Sounds like damn near a 1-for-1 perfect copy of Avenged Sevenfold's 'City of Evil' era.

And yeah, this subject came to mind after the song trended in Twitter... Somehow its a stadium anthem.

Anyway, am I the only one who hates this song?

I like it. One of the only popular songs in the last 15-20 years played with real instruments....not sampled, auto-tuned crap. It could've been a hit in the 80s or 90s, too, even when competing against much better music than 2009 or whenever it came out.

Adore this song. Apparently it has been the most played song at British weddings every single year since its debut.

Like everyone else has mentioned, the Killers are not a one-hit wonder. Full stop. They have 11 songs that have charted on the Top 100 in the US. Six of those have 100m+ views on YouTube, and another that didn't make the list has 139m.

Billboard Hot 100 Hits
  1. (#10) Mr. Brightside
  2. (#14) When You Were Young
  3. (#32) Human
  4. (#51) Somebody Told Me
  5. (#54) A Great Big Sled
  6. (#62) Read My Mind
  7. (#67) Spaceman
  8. (#68) Shadowplay
  9. (#74) All These Things That I've Done
  10. (#78) Runaways
  11. (#79) Boots
YouTube 50m+ views if not already appearing above
  • (139m) Shot at the Night
  • (87m) Just Another Girl
  • (62m) The Man
  • (54m) Miss Atomic Bomb

In particular, "Somebody Told Me" charted at #51, has 236m views on YouTube, and over 1 billion listens on Spotify. There's no way you haven't heard this. At one point I remember not being able to get away from it.

*Edit* Probably the next best known:

Are the Killers really a one hit wonder?

Anyway I don't really like them but I think Mr Brightside is a decent enough song to shout along to with your mates when you're drunk.
Not even close to a one hit wonder.

But I can understand the disdain for the song though... considering it had become an overplayed anthem for 20 something bar bros to constantly belt out every night. Not sure that's still a thing though.

Hot Fuss was an incredible album... I paid a shitload for it when it came out in the USVI instead of just waiting till I got back to the mainland

Not as much a fan of the rest of their work

Oh and major LMAO at "one-hit wonder"

Also, Run for Cover is the best Killers song

I thought that era was the worst music could get. And then I heard that Billie Eilish song during the intro to True Detective Season 4, and it made this shit sound like fucking Mozart.

It's a catchy song many people know the words to...I don't go to bars but people sing along to it at sports events and things when it comes on.

It's just people having some fun, collectively, it's not deeper than that.

I actually start off most of my runs listening to the remix. It just seems to work for me with pacing myself.

Have you seen Dirk doing Mr Brightside?

Love that remix... think it was on Sawdust

Never was a fan, but I do like All These Things I Have Done...despite ruining it with the "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" bridge part which is stupid as hell.

Avenged Sevenfold is a horrible band.
