Television Most Popular TV Series 1986 - 2022

Recently re watched Cheers.

Really liked it when I was younger.

Watching it as a middle aged guy, the show is meh. Each episode, Sam tries to get laid. Got boring quickly.

I stopped watching when in season three, they challenge another bar to a bowling contest. The bowling was NOT candle pin. So, I tapped out.

Coach > Woody

Basically before the internet became popular for streaming NBC and CBS ran a vast chunk of all of the popular shows for around 25 to 30 years. ABC had a few strong years tied together but nothing I saw consistent to NBC and CBS. Then you get your streaming services as expected in the mid to late 2010's to today.

The only thing that made me curious is how the hell is Fox still a network? In the entire 36 years that the video showed they only had 4 or 5 top 10 shows: The Simpsons, X-Files, Prison Break and House (I might be missing one). I know Fox used to be the network that used to have shows like Martin, Living Single, New York Undercover and Mad TV, but I'm trying to figure out how that network is able to still stay afloat seeing as how they damn sure can't choose top 10 shows well.

Kinda shows the difference between popularity and being iconic.

I never even heard of like 1/3 of the shows in there and the Simpsons only appeared briefly in 96.

Not sure how things work but they did have lots of iconics TV show, so maybe they where making money via merchandize. Look at the Simpsons vs lets say Home Improvement, The simpsons make lots lots more.

They also had the fox kids programs X-men, Spider-man, Batman, power rangers, so not sure if those where giving them huge money, but also those TV shows are more easy to sell to international markets than Coach and Roseanne.

Im just thinking thats how Fox made their money but probably someone with more knowledge can tell us.

Dvd sales? Those shows probably have loyal fanbases.

Very true. I forgot how much they had the kid scenes on lock in the 90's. They had all you mentioned above plus Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, The Tick, Taz-Mania among others.

This and syndication are keys for FOX. Now that I think about it FOX has some classics that are still favorites today such as Married With Children and Martin. They also probably have had tons of sales (video and merchandise) because of The Simpsons. In fact, I would say Cartoon Network probably owes a good amount of their viewership to FOX with shows like Bob's Burgers and Family Guy.

TV peaked in the years 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995 with Home Improvement, Coach, Cheers, Wings, Seinfeld, and Fraiser.

There hasn't been a good show since 2005, when Everybody Loves Ray was replaced by dry, gritty work-related simulations and redundant dramas.

Should be a bannable offense imo

Yeah..ok.

The video, is worth watching the whole thing. There is no need for cliffs. It's a fun video to watch. If your ADD is that bad than that's your problem.

Hate when people post youtube videos with nothing else to describe it. Ts <LikeReally5>

It's not that long of a video and cliffs will not make as fun as watching the shows go up and down the rankings. The video itself is what makes it fun to watch.

Taking the Sunday NFC games from NBC is really what put Fox on the map as a actual network. It was considered kind of an upstart until then.

They were a fresh makeover for hockey and UFC as well.
