I know Mayberry is a hotbed of movie buffs so most of you would be able to name him, but for me I say Michael Biehn.

Dude played the lead hero in Terminator.
Played a big supporting role in aliens.
Played a supporting role in the abyss
Played the main bad guy in tombstone (shut up. yes he was. Curly Bill didn't even make it to the climax of the film)
Played a supporting role in the rock
Was the on the cover of the metal gear video game.

Despite this much exposure, I think most people couldn't name him.

Who you got?

You should’ve went with Ike Clantons actor here. Dude is a fucking chameleon that’s been in a fuck ton of films.

Holy shit you're right! I would recognize his face in one second if i saw him in a restaurant, but I never knew his name.

And even though you posted it I've already forgotten it by the time I finished this sentence.

This guys always struck me as someone who no one could name. Seems to always be either a villain, supporting role, or at best, in an ensemble. I have ever seen him as the main protagonist in anything.

First, I thought I'd look at the highest inflation-adjusted box office earning films in history, and see if a name popped into my head of someone that was in a bunch of them-- preferably in leading or highly visible roles-- that I didn't think most of the public could name. Unfortunately, all the inflation-adjusted charts are for our domestic box office, not the global box office, albeit this makes sense since one can only meaningfully adjust for inflation tied to a single currency:

But then I realized I could just look at actors with the highest grossing careers as a cheat sheet. Even if not current, it would give me a list of names to consider:

Sam Worthington

Do you think this actor is a household name? Do you think if Jay Leno did one of his Jaywalk segments most of the people he interviewed would be able to summon the name if shown the above picture? I'm not sure, maybe, I think many could name him, but I doubt most could. And he was the lead actor in the highest grossing movie in history (2 of the Top 3). He's #90 on the above list, but his animated voice work isn't as robust as many on that list. Here are his most popular films where he played a major role with their global box office take:
  1. Avatar ($2.92bn)
  2. Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.32bn)
  3. Clash of the Titans ($493m)
  4. Terminator Salvation ($371m)
  5. Wrath of the Titans ($302m)
  6. Everest ($203m) {minor role}
  7. Hacksaw Ridge ($181m)
  8. Fractured [Netflix]
  9. Man on a Ledge ($48m)
  10. The Debt ($46m)
  11. Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 ($38m)
  12. Hart's War ($32m)
  13. Relay (upcoming)

This guy's in a lot of movies.

Michael Ironside is his credited name but after looking it up, his real name is Frederick Reginald Ironside
