More likely: Khamzat gets folded or Volk winning?

If Khamzat fought Usman instead of Burns at UFC 273, I think Usman wins at that juncture for sure. However, even today, with full health/training camps, at 170 lbs, I just barely lean Usman (conditioning and striking defense).

Under these circumstances, I lean Khamzat to win by stoppage or split decision.

That said, this match-up is so volatile, that even though its close, either fighter could win spectacularly or make it look easy. Khamzat getting folded is definitely on the table--and so is Khamzat doing to Usman what the latter did to Woodley to win the WW title.

So, what outcome do you think is more likely: Khamzat getting KO'd or Volk winning? I think it's the former by a very close margin.
 
If Chimmy had fought Usman instead of Burns at that time Chimmy would've slept Usman.

Usman's chin ain't nothing like Giblerts.
 
If Khamzat fights Usman at 170 and they both make 170 with a full training camp, Usman still wins IMO. Khamzat is 6'2 and he's not skinny. 185 is a more appropriate weight class for him. At 185, I see Khamzat being able to KO Usman. My guess is that they nullify each others' wrestling.
 
More likely?

IMO, Chimaev getting slept. Marty has power and he is carrying, apparently, the extra weight pretty well. I still think it's unlikely, of course.

On the other hand, I see Islam dominating Volk.

Interesting take. I think Usman has slightly better defense/conditioning than Gilbert, which helps, even though Gilberts much quicker on the feet.

I had to fact check myself.* Gilbert has been TKO'd a couple times, I forgot about Hooker. I think you could argue Usman has the better chin--or at minimum, better recovery--based on how he's absorbed punches in his career. But the headshot was brutal!

I just don't like the way Usman has taken some shots. I remember Maia rocking him for example. It's also not a super fair comparison because Giblert stands and bangs a lot of the time where Usman has spent most of his career grinding fools out with rasslin

Touche. On the one hand, I can't say I disagree about Maia and Gilbert's fighting style; even against Colby, I couldn't tell if I was more impressed or concerned with how he absorbed his punches.

On the other hand, he dealt with Gilbert's and Leon's (in their third fight) strikes pretty well. Certainly debatable.
 
Probably Khamzat getting folded. Dude NEVER moves his head and Kamarty has a piston for a jab. I think Islam is going to perform a lot better this time around against Volk.
 
Khamzat is entering potentially unknown turf.

Really he has but one fight against a top echelon opponent. It was razor close and he got dropped a few times.

Usman been doing the top of the best of the best for years.


Khamzat could whoop that ass or Khamzat could eat a knuckle sandwich all you can eat buffet.

I think the former is more likely, but the buffet is definitely an option on the menu this weekend.
 
Volk has a good chance of winning. Khamzat will not get folded.
 
Interesting wager…the only problem I have is that this is MMA. It’s just as easy to be wrong as it is to say I told you so.

Islam and Khazmat are favored to win, so let’s see what happens…

Exactly. Even though it's close, the result could make it seem like "X is/was overrated."

"Khamzat is another hype job, he should stick to Twitter. He has no cardio since covid. He was never on Usmans level and got help from the judges vs Burns."
 
I am gonna say Khamzat gets folded. I don't think either happen. But if I had to bet, I would say Usman landing a KO shot is more likely than Volk beating a well prepared Islam over 5 rounds. And I say 5 rounds cause I don't see Volk landing KO shot as the fight goes on I think Islam will get stronger.

Under these circumstances, I give Volk a 30% chance of winning.

I give Khamzat a 60% chance of winning via stoppage or SD; a 10% chance of losing a decision; and a 30% chance of losing by stoppage.

The two are close for me!
