If you were on the fence about the government being bought this bill should remove all doubt.
The bill written by Sen Roy Blunt and Monsanto, and Blunt has received over 64k in campaign contributions from Monsanto.
My favorite part of the bill is this stipulation.
The bill states that even if future research shows that GMOs or GE seeds cause significant health problems, cancer, etc, anything, that the federal courts no longer have any power to stop their spread, use, or sales.
So if their seeds kill your children there is not a damn thing you can do about it, other than crying at their funeral.
So basically Monsanto, spread money around DC so they can be above the law and now have the government backing them.

In all honesty I don't see how that piece of legislation would stand up to legal challenge if there were proven adverse side effects. And if a shitstorm arose then they could always repeal it anyway.

But that is a reflection on politicians in general...............pure scum.

Lol. How far could things like this go before a real response occurred? Fucking bread and circuses.

Control of the food supply is any tyrants wet dream. I'm sure the government is all for it. Just gotta put up enough mock resistance to it to fool people into thinking they tried.

not to downplay this by calling it old news, but i was not surprised when i heard about this forever ago

the government has long been bought and paid for, "bailouts" and fighting israels enemies in the middle east...

Haha wow it's like something from a movie. I guess they feel they can be a little more blatant about it these days.

Ever since Percy I've believed Monsanto is one of the scummiest corps on the planet. Evil.

I believe the proviso they're talking about ended in 2013. It was lumped onto raising the debt ceiling/one of the debt bills at some point.

I wouldn't be too worried about scientists not studying the health effects of GMOs and chemical fertilizers. They're now a major part of the world diet and every health study done seems to make the distinction of GMO vs. non-GMO.

I would be more worried about eating "organics" as there hasn't been nearly a fraction of the health studies done looking into the possible ill effects of people ingesting "natural" fertilizers/pesticides that have only appeared in the last 10-15 years. The federal standards for what can be called "organic" has only existed loosely in America since 1990.

Monsanto is also the leader in producing "organic" seeds at this point. So good luck fighting them while also ingesting/growing their food products.

Agreed. I'm a lot more worried about what my wife grows in our garden using organic farming techniques than I am about what some corporation is experimenting with in a laboratory. It just stands to reason.

My biggest concern is the power of controlling a societies food supply. It has huge military implications and I would be very surprised if Monsanto and the military aren't working closely together.

Governments always want to project power over people and controlling the food is one of the best ways.

Not the mention the FDA is just as corporate as any other governmental institution. AKA corrupt. People just think "They would tell us if there was anything harmful, right?". People think that about politicians too.

Yeah we should all help to stamp out organic farming. Everyone do their part

EDIT: Looks like the corporate boys are leading the charge

Same pattern as what happened to all the media stations. All gobbled up.

Alright, start growing your own vegetables.

$64,000 seems pretty cheap to buy a senator.

Does this impact Trader Joe's at all?
