Which is harder average MMA workout or wrestling workout?

I heard milion times from wrestlers like Daniel Cormier , that they do crazy shit(like he said in Q&A) in wrestling and I believe it is hard as fuck...

Is there a video on youtube of full wrestling workout?

And how much in percentages is MMA and wrestling workout harder than Insanity(or something similar) workout? 50-60% ?

I'm pretty sure wrestling workouts are significantly harder than MMA workouts. Granted I don't have a ton of experience in MMA. If you are wrestling at the college level or even at a very high level in high school, Insanity is a breeze.

Insanity can't compare. Just 10 minutes of serious rolling is like 40 minutes of Max Cardio. I haven't tried Insanity Asylum though.

I am not sure, depends on which Insanity workout you are comparing it two. The workouts get a lot longer in month 2 is a lot longer workouts and completely different, mainly cardio stuff. Pure cardio, Plyometrics, etc. I thought Insanity was really hard on the legs with all the ridiculous amount of jumping involved, squats, etc. Doesn't do much for the upperbody and arms though.

It's all different. Insanity and such are shorter and target different stuff. Like at our gyms Mma workouts we do usually 5 5min rds sparring, 3 5min rds grappling or Mma specific things like wall drills or getting up off bottom, then 1 min rds of GNP or bag work, followed if u have a fight coming up with aerodyne sprints. So it's not so much targeting muscles like insanity but just trying to kill you.

Trained and competed in both. Wrestling workouts are harder. The intensity, and focus is just there the whole time. While in MMA, the intensity seems to come and go

Um, kind of a stupid question. You're comparing a specific workout plan to vague, general workouts that occur in wrestling and MMA. Because i've never heard of an average wrestling workout or an average MMA workout. What does that even mean?

Whats this "Insanity" workout you mention?

Nothing is harder than a legit pro styled MMA workout. Because it is everything, including wrestling.

I have played soccer and football. Participated in competition weightlifting meets. Did bodybuilding and crossfit. Boxed, wrestled, all that jazz.

In all fairness mma is harder because it incorporates everything under the sun.

idk if youve ever wrestled live, but I thought I had great cardio after being able to roll nonstop for a good 2 hours at 3 years of training bjj. I went to my first wrestling class and gassed after wrestling live for just 5 minutes. its so much different. nonstop explosion.

Yeah, wrestling is different. It's much more strength related, and it requires equal parts technique + physical effort to plant a guy and control him. Jitz is much more passive and reactive, and there are a lot of moments of relative "rest" while looking for your opportunity.

Insanity is tough for sure but come on it's not even harder than HS basketball practice. Have no clue about wrestling and mma workouts but yeah..

Insanity is good for conditioning and cardio and believe it or not a lot of similar things are done in a wrestling practice. In a wrestling practice though you stop for technique training, then you do technique at slow and medium speeds. I would say there are more breaks. In a 2 hour wrestling practice you probably have 45 minutes of intense drilling or wrestling, about the same as a 1st month Insanity video.

The drilling in wrestling is intense though and 30 second and 1 minute drills are very intense when done over and over.

I cannot comment on MMA I would imagine it is alot like the wrestling with the addition of some striking.

All in all I think using insanity off season and then just doing your specific practice is the best way to go about it.

What would people here suggest then for a slightly out of shape 30yo guy that used to do martial arts in his teen years... I'm a little intimidated jumping into wrestling because I have zero experience with it (I did japanese jiu jitsu, which is a lot more standing and with a gi and karate) I think mma might translate better. I would think of doing both but the gyms around here charge per style and i'm not all that flush.

It depends. I would assume a guy like GSP has an incredible, nearly unattainable mma workout while a guy like Nick Diaz might just roll all day.

I would guess some wrestlers think mma workout is easier than what they suffered through wrestling though.

I find crossfit workouts to be harder than MMA practice, by a margin. Never tried pure wrestling though, I have heard the top end guys train inhumanly hard.
